[Machine] "We went out as pilgrims and when we were in Arj, suddenly we came across a snake that was agitated. It did not take long before it died. So a man took out a piece of cloth from his garment, wrapped the snake in it, buried it, and took a stone to mark the grave. When we arrived in Makkah and were at the Grand Mosque, a person approached us and asked, 'Who among you is the companion of Amr ibn Jabir?' We replied that we did not know him. Then he asked, 'Who among you is the companion of the jinn?' We pointed towards him. The person said, 'May Allah reward you, as he was one of the last nine who visited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was listening to the Quran.'"  

خَرَجْنَا حُجَّاجًا فَلَمَّا كُنَّا بِالْعَرْجِ إِذَا نَحْنُ بِحَيَّةٍ تَضْطَرِبُ فَلَمْ تَلْبَثْ أَنْ مَاتَتْ فَأَخْرَجَ لَهَا رَجُلٌ خِرْقَةً مِنْ عَيْبَتِهِ فَلَفَّهَا فِيهَا وَدَفَنَهَا وَخَذَّ لَهَا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَا مَكَّةَ فَإِنَّا لَبِالْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِذْ وَقَفَ عَلَيْنَا شَخْصٌ فَقَالَ أَيُّكُمْ صَاحِبُ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَابِرٍ؟ قُلْنَا مَا نَعْرِفُهُ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْصَاحِبُ الْجَانِّ؟ قَالُوا هَذَا قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ جَزَاكَ اللهُ خَيْرًا أَمَا إِنَّهُ قَدْ كَانَ مِنْ آخِرِ التِّسْعَةِ مَوْتًا الَّذِينَ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْآنَ

One of us took a piece of his garment, wrapped the snake in it, and buried it in the ground. Then we proceeded to Makkah. While we were in the Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid al-Haram), a person approached us and asked, 'Which one of you is the companion of Amr ibn Jabir?' We replied, 'We do not know Amr ibn Jabir.' He then asked, 'Which one of you is the companion of the jinn?' We said, 'This is the one.' He said, 'May Allah reward you well. He was the last of the nine who have come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to listen to the Quran.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summarization."
