"Mu'awiyah came to Abu Hashim bin 'Uthbah to visit him when he was ill (and dying). He said: 'O Uncle! Why do you cry? Is it from the pangs of death or desire for this world?' He said: 'Neither of these. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had commissioned me with an obligation that I did not abide by. He ﷺ said: "It suffices you to gather the wealth of a servant or a rider in the cause of Allah." And (it is only) today I find that I have gathered it.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2327)

Is there some pain bothering you, or is it because of this world, the best of which has already passed?’ He said: ‘It is not for any of these reasons. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me some advice and I wish that I had followed it. He ﷺ said: “There may come a time when you will see wealth divided among the people, and all you will need of that is a servant and a mount to ride in the cause of Allah.” That time came, but I accumulated wealth.’”

[Machine] Muawiyah visited his uncle, Abu Hashim bin Utbah, to check on him, and he found him crying. Muawiyah asked him, "What makes you cry, uncle? Is it because of pain that distresses you or is it a desire for the worldly life?" Abu Hashim replied, "Neither. But the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings be upon Him) advised us and said, 'O Abu Hashim, maybe you will witness a time when wealth is given to people, but what suffices you from accumulating wealth is a servant and a mount in the way of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted.' And I see that I have gathered..."
