[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a woman came to him and presented herself to him, so he lowered his gaze from her and then raised it. He did not send her back, so a man from his companions said, "O Messenger of Allah, marry her to me." He said, "Do you have anything?" The man said, "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I do not have anything." He said, "Not even an iron ring?" He said, "No, not even an iron ring, but I give her my clothing, and I will keep half of it." He said, "No, but do you have anything from the Quran?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Then go, for I have married her to you according to what you have from the Quran."  

الطبراني:٥٩٥١ – حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ تَعْرِضُ نَفْسَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَخَفَّضَ فِيهَا الْبَصَرَ وَرَفَعَهُ فَلَمْ يُرْجِعْهَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا قَالَ «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا عِنْدِي مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالَ «وَلَا خَاتَمٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ؟» قَالَ وَلَا خَاتَمٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ وَلَكِنْ أَشُقُّ بُرْدِي هَذِهِ وأُعْطِيهَا وَآخُذُ النِّصْفَ فَقَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

While we were sitting in the company of the Prophet ﷺ a woman came to him and presented herself (for marriage) to him. The Prophet ﷺ looked at her, lowering his eyes and raising them, but did not give a reply. One of his companions said, "Marry her to me O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" The Prophet ﷺ asked (him), "Have you got anything?" He said, "I have got nothing." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Not even an iron ring?" He Saʿd, "Not even an iron ring, but I will tear my garment into two halves and give her one half and keep the other half." The Prophet; said, "No. Do you know some of the Qur'an (by heart)?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Go, I have agreed to marry her to you with what you know of the Qur'an (as her Mahr)."  

البخاري:٥١٣٢ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ حَدَّثَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ

حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ جُلُوسًا فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ تَعْرِضُ نَفْسَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَخَفَّضَ فِيهَا النَّظَرَ وَرَفَعَهُ فَلَمْ يُرِدْهَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَعِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ قَالَ مَا عِنْدِي مِنْ شَىْءٍ قَالَ وَلاَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ وَلاَ خَاتَمًا مِنَ حَدِيدٍ وَلَكِنْ أَشُقُّ بُرْدَتِي هَذِهِ فَأُعْطِيهَا النِّصْفَ وَآخُذُ النِّصْفَ قَالَ لاَ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَىْءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

[Machine] A woman offered herself to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and a man from the people said, "Marry her to me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What do you have?" He said, "I have nothing." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Go, look for something, even if it is just an iron ring." So he went and came back and said, "No, by Allah, I have not found anything, not even an iron ring, but this is my Izaar (waist wrapper) for her. Half of it is for her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What will you do with your Izaar? If you cover yourself with it, there will be nothing for her from it, and if you let her wear it, there will be nothing for you from it." So the man sat down until his sitting became long. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him or he was sent for, and he asked him, "What portion of the Qur'an do you have?" He said, "I have such and such Surahs." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I have married her to you for what you have of the Qur'an."  

الطبراني:٥٧٨١ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً عَرَضَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا فَقَالَ «مَا عِنْدَكَ؟» قَالَ مَا عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا وَلَا خَاتَمَ حَدِيدٍ وَلَكِنْ هَذَا إِزَارِي لَهَا نِصْفُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا تَصْنَعُ بإِزَارِكَ إِنْ لَبِسْتَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهَا مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ وَإِنْ لَبِسَتْهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ» فَجَلَسَ الرَّجُلُ حَتَّى طَالَ مَجْلِسُهُ فَرَآهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَدَعَاهُ أَوْ جِيءَ بِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ «مَاذَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟» قَالَ مَعِي سُورَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قَدْ أَنْكَحْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

البيهقي:١٣٨٣٤ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْأَدِيبُ أنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيُّ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَرْوَزِيُّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثنا عَاصِمٌ هُوَ ابْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا أَبُو حَازِمٍ ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
