مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيُّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ

tabarani:5082[Chain 1] ʿAbdullāh b. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal > ʿUbaydullāh b. Muʿādh from my father [Chain 2] Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥaḍramī > Abū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah > Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > al-Ḥakam > Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī > Zayd b. Arqam > ʿAbdullāh b. Ubay b. Salūl

[Machine] I heard Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul saying, "Do not spend on those who are near the Messenger of Allah until they disperse." So I came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, and Ibn Ubayy came to him and swore that he did not say that. Then the companions of the Prophet ﷺ blamed me, so I went to my house and slept. He said, "I felt sad." The Prophet ﷺ sent for me, or he said, "I went to the Prophet ﷺ , and he said, 'Indeed, Allah has confirmed your words and excused you.'" And he recited these two verses to me, "They are the ones who say, 'Do not spend on those who are near the Messenger of Allah'" until he completed the two verses.

[Machine] "Do not spend [anything] upon those who are near to the Messenger of Allah and said, 'If we return to Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel therefrom the more humble.' And to Allah belongs the deposing matter of ascent and descent from power. And it is Allah who has knowledge of all things. So, there is no blame upon you, [O Muhammad], whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon each other - a greeting from Allah, blessed and good. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may understand." (Surah Al-Munafiqun 7)
