“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you to ask you about the vermin of the earth. What do you say about mastigures?’ He said: ‘I do not eat them and I do not forbid them.’ I said: ‘I will eat of that which you have not forbidden. But why (do you not eat them), O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘One of the nations was turned into beasts and I looked at this creature and was uncertain.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about rabbits?’ He said: ‘I do not eat them and I do not forbid them.’ I said: ‘I will eat of that which you have not forbidden. But why (do you not eat them), O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘I have been told that it menstruates.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3245)

[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the birds of prey of the land, and he said, "Ask about whatever you want." So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about the lizard?" He said, "I do not eat it nor do I prohibit it. I have been informed that a nation from the Children of Israel has been transformed into animals in the land." So I said, "I will not leave anything that you have not forbidden without eating it." He said, "I said that I do not eat it and do not prohibit it because I have been informed that it menstruates." So I said, "I have not left anything that you have not forbidden without eating it." I said, "What about the fox?" He said, "Does anyone eat the fox?" I said, "What about the hyena?" He said, "Does anyone eat the hyena?" I said, "What about the wolf?" He said, "Does anyone eat the wolf? Is there any good in it?"
