Dua of Qaylah bt. Makhramah al-Anbariyyah
Qaylah bint Makhramah, when she had taken her place in bed after the late evening prayer, would say: In the name of Allah, and upon Allah I rely. I have laid my side down for my Lord, and I ask His forgiveness for my sin. She would say this repeatedly, then she would say: I seek refuge in Allah and in His perfect words, which neither a righteous person nor a wicked person can overstep, from the evil of what descends from the heaven and what ascends into it, from the evil of what descends into the earth and the evil of what comes out from it, from the evil of the trials of the day and the evil of those that come by night, except one that comes with good. I believe in Allah and hold fast to Him. Praise be to Allah, to whose power every thing has submitted; praise be to Allah, before whose might every thing has humbled itself; praise be to Allah, before whose greatness every thing has lowered itself; and praise be to Allah, before whose dominion every thing has bowed in humility. O Allah, I ask You by the bonds of might from Your Throne, by the utmost mercy from Your Book, by Your highest majesty, by Your greatest Name, and by Your perfect words, which neither a righteous person nor a wicked person can overstep, that You look upon us with a merciful look, leaving no sin of ours except that You forgive it, no poverty except that You mend it, no enemy except that You destroy him, no unclothed person except that You clothe him, no debt except that You settle it, and no matter in which there is benefit for us in this world and the Hereafter except that You grant it to us, O Most Merciful of the merciful. I believe in Allah and hold fast to Him.
Then she would say: Glory be to Allah thirty-three times, Allah is greater thirty-three times, and praise be to Allah thirty-four times. Then she would say: O my daughter, this is the chief concluding practice: the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him seeking a servant from him, and he said: "Shall I not direct you to something better than a servant?" She said, "Yes." So he instructed her to say these hundred at the time of lying down after the late evening prayer.
