[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to travel with some of his wives and divide his time among them. He traveled with Aisha, the daughter of Abu Bakr, and she had a howdah. The howdah was carried by men who placed it on the camel. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions performed the marriage for Aisha, and she went out for a need and got delayed without anyone realizing it. When the Prophet ﷺ woke up, the people had already set off, and the men carrying the howdah came and lifted it without knowing that she was in it. So they set off, and Aisha arrived and found that they had already left, so she sat in her place. A man from the Ansar named Safwan bin Al-Muattal, who used to avoid women, came near her. He had a camel with him, and when he saw her, he carried her and used to see her before the veil. He put her on the camel and led it until they reached the people and the Prophet ﷺ . People spoke about it, and it reached the Prophet ﷺ , so it was hard for him. He secluded her and consulted Zaid bin Thabit and others about it. Zaid said, "O Messenger of Allah, leave her. Perhaps Allah will provide you with something better." Ali bin Abi Talib said, "Women are many." So the Prophet ﷺ lifted her onto him (for a better understanding of what is meant, refer to the Arabic text), and Aisha set out walking in the company of women. She stumbled and fell, causing people to curse a Mus`ab bin Umayr. Aisha said, "How terrible! You say such a thing to a man of the Messenger of Allah!" She told her the news, and she fainted. Then the Quran was revealed to excuse her in Surah An-Nur: "Verily those who brought forth the slander (against Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ ) are a group among you." Until it reached "Those who brought forth the lie are the obstructing group." And it was revealed until "Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." Abu Bakr used to support a man called Mistah financially and to give him charity. He also used to maintain good relations with him. But after this incident, Abu Bakr said that he would never spend anything on Mistah again. Then the verse was revealed: "Would you not love that Allah should forgive you?" So the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to go to her, cheer her up, and inform her of what Allah had revealed. Abu Bakr went to her and told her of her excuse and of what Allah had revealed. She said, "It is not because of your praise or of your companion's praise."

[Machine] Abdul Razzaq was mentioned in my book, Sumayyah bint Huyay, that the Prophet ﷺ performed Hajj with his wives. While they were on the way, a man came and took hold of the reins of the camels, causing them to move faster. The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is how you control your market with bottles," meaning, women. While they were walking, Safiyyah bint Huyay's camel stumbled and she fell down. She began to cry, and when the Prophet ﷺ was informed of this, he wiped her tears with his hand. Her crying increased, and while he tried to stop her, her weeping grew louder. He instructed the people to stop and they did. It was my day, so when they stopped, the Prophet ﷺ struck me on my chest and entered a tent. I wondered why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was so angry with me. I feared that there was something wrong with him, so I went to Aisha and said, "You know very well that I have never sold my day to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for anything. Indeed, I had donated my day to you in order to please the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." She replied, "Yes, I know." I said, "Sheikh's favor is from Allah, and He grants favor to whom He wills." He said, "Go and join your family." When she objected, the Prophet ﷺ did not speak to her until he reached Makkah and stayed there for a few days. Then, during the journey back to Madinah, he passed by al-Muharram. He did not come to her or divide anything with her. She lost hope in him. In the month of Rabi' al-Awwal, he came to her and she saw his shadow. She said, "This is the shadow of a person, and the Prophet ﷺ does not enter upon me. Who is this?" The Prophet ﷺ entered and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not know what to do when you enter upon me." She had a servant whom she used to hide from the Prophet ﷺ . She said, "It is yours, Fulanah." The Prophet ﷺ went to the bed of Zainab, which had been raised, and put it in his hand. Then, he went to his wife and was pleased with them.

(the wife of the Prophet) that she was told that ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair (on hearing that she was selling or giving something as a gift) said, "By Allah, if ʿAisha does not give up this, I will declare her incompetent to dispose of her wealth." I said, "Did he (ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair) say so?" They (people) said, "Yes." ʿAisha said, "I vow to Allah that I will never speak to Ibn Az-Zubair." When this desertion lasted long, ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair sought intercession with her, but she said, "By Allah, I will not accept the intercession of anyone for him, and will not commit a sin by breaking my vow." When this state of affairs was prolonged on Ibn Az-Zubair (he felt it hard on him), he said to Al- Miswar bin Makhrama and ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin 'Abu Yaghuth, who were from the tribe of Bani Zahra, "I beseech you, by Allah, to let me enter upon ʿAisha, for it is unlawful for her to vow to cut the relation with me." So Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur-Rahman, wrapping their sheets around themselves, asked ʿAisha's permission saying, "Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be upon you! Shall we come in?" ʿAisha said, "Come in." They said, "All of us?" She said, "Yes, come in all of you," not knowing that Ibn Az- Zubair was also with them. So when they entered, Ibn Az-Zubair entered the screened place and got hold of ʿAisha and started requesting her to excuse him, and wept. Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur Rahman also started requesting her to speak to him and to accept his repentance. They said (to her), "The Prophet ﷺ forbade what you know of deserting (not speaking to your Muslim Brethren), for it is unlawful for any Muslim not to talk to his brother for more than three nights (days)." So when they increased their reminding her (of the superiority of having good relation with Kith and kin, and of excusing others' sins), and brought her down to a critical situation, she started reminding them, and wept, saying, "I have made a vow, and (the question of) vow is a difficult one." They (Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur-Rahman) persisted in their appeal till she spoke with ʿAbdullah bin Az- Zubair and she manumitted forty slaves as an expiation for her vow. Later on, whenever she remembered her vow, she used to weep so much that her veil used to become wet with her tears. (Using translation from Bukhārī 6073)
