[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to travel with some of his wives and divide his time among them. He traveled with Aisha, the daughter of Abu Bakr, and she had a howdah. The howdah was carried by men who placed it on the camel. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions performed the marriage for Aisha, and she went out for a need and got delayed without anyone realizing it. When the Prophet ﷺ woke up, the people had already set off, and the men carrying the howdah came and lifted it without knowing that she was in it. So they set off, and Aisha arrived and found that they had already left, so she sat in her place. A man from the Ansar named Safwan bin Al-Muattal, who used to avoid women, came near her. He had a camel with him, and when he saw her, he carried her and used to see her before the veil. He put her on the camel and led it until they reached the people and the Prophet ﷺ . People spoke about it, and it reached the Prophet ﷺ , so it was hard for him. He secluded her and consulted Zaid bin Thabit and others about it. Zaid said, "O Messenger of Allah, leave her. Perhaps Allah will provide you with something better." Ali bin Abi Talib said, "Women are many." So the Prophet ﷺ lifted her onto him (for a better understanding of what is meant, refer to the Arabic text), and Aisha set out walking in the company of women. She stumbled and fell, causing people to curse a Mus`ab bin Umayr. Aisha said, "How terrible! You say such a thing to a man of the Messenger of Allah!" She told her the news, and she fainted. Then the Quran was revealed to excuse her in Surah An-Nur: "Verily those who brought forth the slander (against Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ ) are a group among you." Until it reached "Those who brought forth the lie are the obstructing group." And it was revealed until "Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." Abu Bakr used to support a man called Mistah financially and to give him charity. He also used to maintain good relations with him. But after this incident, Abu Bakr said that he would never spend anything on Mistah again. Then the verse was revealed: "Would you not love that Allah should forgive you?" So the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to go to her, cheer her up, and inform her of what Allah had revealed. Abu Bakr went to her and told her of her excuse and of what Allah had revealed. She said, "It is not because of your praise or of your companion's praise."

(the wife of the Prophet) that she was told that ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair (on hearing that she was selling or giving something as a gift) said, "By Allah, if ʿAisha does not give up this, I will declare her incompetent to dispose of her wealth." I said, "Did he (ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair) say so?" They (people) said, "Yes." ʿAisha said, "I vow to Allah that I will never speak to Ibn Az-Zubair." When this desertion lasted long, ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair sought intercession with her, but she said, "By Allah, I will not accept the intercession of anyone for him, and will not commit a sin by breaking my vow." When this state of affairs was prolonged on Ibn Az-Zubair (he felt it hard on him), he said to Al- Miswar bin Makhrama and ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin 'Abu Yaghuth, who were from the tribe of Bani Zahra, "I beseech you, by Allah, to let me enter upon ʿAisha, for it is unlawful for her to vow to cut the relation with me." So Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur-Rahman, wrapping their sheets around themselves, asked ʿAisha's permission saying, "Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be upon you! Shall we come in?" ʿAisha said, "Come in." They said, "All of us?" She said, "Yes, come in all of you," not knowing that Ibn Az- Zubair was also with them. So when they entered, Ibn Az-Zubair entered the screened place and got hold of ʿAisha and started requesting her to excuse him, and wept. Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur Rahman also started requesting her to speak to him and to accept his repentance. They said (to her), "The Prophet ﷺ forbade what you know of deserting (not speaking to your Muslim Brethren), for it is unlawful for any Muslim not to talk to his brother for more than three nights (days)." So when they increased their reminding her (of the superiority of having good relation with Kith and kin, and of excusing others' sins), and brought her down to a critical situation, she started reminding them, and wept, saying, "I have made a vow, and (the question of) vow is a difficult one." They (Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur-Rahman) persisted in their appeal till she spoke with ʿAbdullah bin Az- Zubair and she manumitted forty slaves as an expiation for her vow. Later on, whenever she remembered her vow, she used to weep so much that her veil used to become wet with her tears.

The House was burnt during the time of Yazid b. Muawiya when the people of Syria had fought (in Mecca). And it happened with it (the Ka'ba) what was (in store for it). Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) felt it (in the same state) until the people came in the season (of Hajj). (The idea behind was) that he wanted to exhort them or incite them (to war) against the people of Syria. When the people had arrived he said to them: O people, advise me about the Ka'ba. Should I demolish it and then build it from its very foundation, or should I repair whatever has been damaged of it? Ibn 'Abbas said: An idea has occurred to me according to which I think that you should only repair (the portion which has been) damaged, and leave the House (in that very state in which) people embraced Islam (and leave those very stones in the same state) when people embraced Islam, and over which Allah's Apostle ﷺ had raised it. Thereupon Ibn Zubair said: It the house of any one of you is burnt, he would not be contented until he had reconstructed it, then what about the House of your Lord (which is far more Important than your house)? I would seek good advice from my Lord thrice and then I would make up (my mind) about this affair. After seeking good advice thrice, he made up his mind to demolish it. The people apprehended that calamity might fall from heaven on those persons who would be first to climb (over the building for the purpose of demolishing it), till one (took up courage, and ascended the roof), and threw down one of its stones. When the people saw no calamity befalling him, they followed him, demolished it until it was razed to the ground. Then Ibn Zubair erected pillars and hung cartains on them (in order to provide facilities to the people for observing the time of its construction). And the walls were raised; and Ibn Zubair said: I heard 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) say that Allah's Apostle ﷺ had observed: If the people had Rot recently (abandoned) unbelief, find I had means enough to reconstruct it, which I had not, I would have definitely excompassed in it five cubits of area from Hijr. And I would also have constructed a door for the people to enter, and a door for their exit. I today have (the means to spend) and I entertain no fearfrom the side of people (that they would protest against this change). So he added five cubits of area from the side of Hatim to it that there appeared (the old) foundation (upon which Hadrat Ibrahim had built the Ka'ba). and the people saw that and it was upon this foundation that the wall was raised. The length of the Ka'ba was eighteen cubits. when addition was made to it (which was in its breadth), then naturally the length appears to be) small (as compared with its breadth). Then addition of ten cubits (of area) was made in its length (also). Two doors were also constructed, one of which (was meant) for entrance and the other one for exit. When Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) was killed, Hajjaj wrote to 'Abd al-Malik (b. Marwan) informing him about it, and telling him that Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) had built (the Ka'ba) on those very foundations (which were laid by Ibrahim) and which reliable persons among the Meccans had seen. 'Abd al-Malik wrote to him: We are not concerned with the censuring of Ibn Zubair in anything. Keep intact the addition made by him in the side of length, and whatever he has added frem the side of Hijr revert to (its previous) foundation, and wall up the door which he had opened. Thus Hajjaj at the command of Abd al-Malik) demolished it (that portion) and rebuilt it on (its previous) foundations.

[AI] Abdul Razzaq was mentioned in my book, Sumayyah bint Huyay, that the Prophet ﷺ performed Hajj with his wives. While they were on the way, a man came and took hold of the reins of the camels, causing them to move faster. The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is how you control your market with bottles," meaning, women. While they were walking, Safiyyah bint Huyay's camel stumbled and she fell down. She began to cry, and when the Prophet ﷺ was informed of this, he wiped her tears with his hand. Her crying increased, and while he tried to stop her, her weeping grew louder. He instructed the people to stop and they did. It was my day, so when they stopped, the Prophet ﷺ struck me on my chest and entered a tent. I wondered why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was so angry with me. I feared that there was something wrong with him, so I went to Aisha and said, "You know very well that I have never sold my day to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for anything. Indeed, I had donated my day to you in order to please the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." She replied, "Yes, I know." I said, "Sheikh's favor is from Allah, and He grants favor to whom He wills." He said, "Go and join your family." When she objected, the Prophet ﷺ did not speak to her until he reached Makkah and stayed there for a few days. Then, during the journey back to Madinah, he passed by al-Muharram. He did not come to her or divide anything with her. She lost hope in him. In the month of Rabi' al-Awwal, he came to her and she saw his shadow. She said, "This is the shadow of a person, and the Prophet ﷺ does not enter upon me. Who is this?" The Prophet ﷺ entered and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not know what to do when you enter upon me." She had a servant whom she used to hide from the Prophet ﷺ . She said, "It is yours, Fulanah." The Prophet ﷺ went to the bed of Zainab, which had been raised, and put it in his hand. Then, he went to his wife and was pleased with them.

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, passing by the market of Thul-Majaz while I was in a shop of mine. He passed by wearing a red garment, and I heard him saying, "O people, say there is no god but Allah, you will be successful." A man was following him and throwing stones at him, causing his ankle to bleed. The man was saying, "O people, do not listen to him, for he is a liar." I asked, "Who is this?" It was said, "A young boy from the Banu Abd al-Muttalib." When Allah revealed Islam, we left our retreat with our possessions, including a red camel, until we reached close to Madinah. As we were sitting, a man approached us wearing two white garments and greeted us. He asked, "Where are you from?" We replied, "From the retreat, and we have a red camel with us." He asked, "Are you selling me this camel?" We answered, "Yes." He then asked, "For how much?" We replied, "For such and such an amount of dates." He took them without counting, and grabbed the reins of the camel, riding away until he disappeared within the walls of Madinah. At that moment, some of us asked each other, "Do you know this man?" No one knew him. So, some people from the group said, "You are giving your camel to someone you do not know?" The camel's owner said, "Do not worry, for I have seen a man who would never betray us, and I have not seen anything more resembling the moon, next to him, on the night of the full moon." In the evening, a man came to us and greeted us, saying, "Peace be upon you, and may the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. Are you the ones who came from the retreat?" We said, "Yes." He said, "I am the Messenger of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he commands you to eat from these dates until you are satisfied and take (some) with you until you are full." We ate from the dates until we were full and took some with us until we were full. The next day, we arrived in Madinah and found the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, standing and delivering a sermon to the people from the pulpit. I heard him saying, "The hand that gives is better than the hand that takes, and you should start with those whom you support, your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, and the one who is nearest to you." Then, a man from the Ansar stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, these are the sons of Tha'laba bin Yarbua who killed so-and-so during the Jahiliyyah, so grant us revenge for our killed." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, lifted his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits and said, "A mother should not be made to suffer for her child, nor a child made to suffer for his mother."

[AI] From Abu Rafi, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: I was a young boy under the guardianship of Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib, and I had embraced Islam, and so had the mother of Al-Fadl and Al-Abbas. Al-Abbas had concealed his Islam out of fear from his people, and Abu Lahab had withdrawn from the battle of Badr and sent Al-'As bin Hisham in his place. Al-'As had a debt to Al-Abbas, so he said to him, "Settle my debt for me and I will fight in this battle on your behalf." So Al-Abbas agreed and settled his debt. When the news of the battle reached us, Allah disgraced Abu Lahab. I was a weak man who used to carve arrowheads in a room, and by Allah, I was sitting in that room carving arrowheads while Umm Al-Fadl was with me. Suddenly, I saw Abu Lahab dragging his feet near the door of the room, and his back was towards me. The people said, "This is Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith." Abu Lahab said to him, "Come here, O son of my brother." So Abu Sufyan went and sat with him. When the people saw them, they gathered around them. Abu Lahab asked Abu Sufyan, "How did things go with the people?" Abu Sufyan replied, "Nothing, By Allah, if we had met them and they attacked us, they would have killed us as they pleased and captured us as they pleased. By Allah, I have not seen people with white garments on fast horses like them. By Allah, no one could stand against them." Then, I lifted up the door of the room and said, "By Allah, those were angels." Abu Lahab raised his hand and struck me on the face, causing my nose to bleed. He then threw me to the ground, hitting me until I fell down. Umm Al-Fadl stood up and seized him, taking hold of a pillar in the room and struck him with it, causing him to bleed from the head, and she said, "O enemy of Allah, you have weakened him. If you have seen his master absent, he would have stood up humiliated. By Allah, he did not live for more than seven nights until Allah struck him with a swelling, and he died. He left his two sons for two or three nights without burying him until you (Quraysh) did." Then a man from Quraysh said to his two sons, "Are you not ashamed that your father's body is in his house?" They replied, "We fear this wound." Quraysh used to fear this swelling just as they feared the plague. The man said, "I will go with you." They said, "By Allah, they did not wash him except by pouring water on him from a distance. Then they carried him to the highest point in Makkah and threw him over the wall, and then they stoned him." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summary.

[AI] "In a sale or a gift, Aisha gave it, and I swear by Allah, she said, 'Either Aisha will finish or I will stone her.' Aisha said when she heard that, 'Indeed, I have made a vow to Allah that I will never speak to Ibn Zubair.' So when Ibn Zubair pleaded with her during her prolonged migration to him, she said, 'By Allah, I will not intercede for him with anyone, nor will I break my vow that I made forever.' And when this continued for a long time with Ibn Zubair, Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin Abdi Yaghuth, who were from the Banu Zuhrah tribe, spoke to him and said, 'We swear by Allah that we will not enter upon Aisha unless you allow us, as it is not permissible for her to make a vow regarding our relationship.' So Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Al-Aswad went along with Abdullah bin Zubair, and they covered themselves with their cloaks until they sought permission to enter upon Aisha. And they said, 'Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Can we come in, O Mother of the Believers?' Aisha said, 'Enter.' And they said, 'All of us?' She said, 'Yes, all of you.' And Aisha did not know that Ibn Zubair was with them. So when they entered, Ibn Zubair broke through the veil and entered upon Aisha and embraced her, and he began to beg her and cry. And Al-Miswar and Abdul Rahman also pleaded with Aisha and said to her, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade what you did, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days.' When they persisted in reminding Aisha of this, she began to cry and remind them, and she said, 'I have made a vow, and the vow is severe.' And they continued with her until she spoke to Ibn Zubair, and then she released him from his vow. This involved the freeing of forty slaves. [AI] I do not see you except that you have been forbidden to me, so go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , perhaps you will seek something that will bring you back to me. So she left and he sat waiting for her at the corner of the well. Then the Prophet ﷺ came and a woman was combing his hair. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed Aws bin As-Samit is one whom you know to be weak in his opinion and incapable of his ability, and it has become evident from me, O Messenger of Allah, and more deserving than he is of your kindness, whether it is towards me or towards others. O Messenger of Allah, seek something that will bring me back to him by my father and mother." He said, "O Khawlah, we are not commanded anything regarding your matter, and if we are commanded, I will inform you." While she combed his hair, she finished combing one side of his head and she started on the other, and then Allah revealed: "Indeed Allah has heard the statement of her (Khawlah bint Tha'laba) that disputes with you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning her husband (Aus bin As-Samit), and complains to Allah. And Allah hears the argument between you both. Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer." [Al-Mujadilah: 1] until His statement: "...and they will make you swear by Allah when you return to them that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them. Surely, Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise." [Al-Mujadilah: 2] She said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, he does not have a servant other than myself, and I do not have a servant other than him." He said, "So whoever does not find [a fasting alternative], then [he must endure] fasting for two months consecutively." She said, "By Allah, whenever he does not eat anything in a day, his vision becomes blurred." He said, "So whoever is unable to do so, then [he must feed] sixty poor persons." She said, "By Allah, we do not have on that day except a small amount of food." He said, "So order him to go to so-and-so and take from him a half quarter of dates, and give it in charity to sixty poor persons, and then come back to me." She said, "So I went and when he saw me he said, 'What is behind you?' I said, 'Good, and you are silent. You have been commanded to go to so-and-so and take from him a half quarter of dates, and give it in charity to sixty poor persons, and then come back to me.' So he went running until he came back with it. She said, 'And I had taken an oath from him before that that he could not carry more than five double handfuls from weakness.'

[AI] From Abu Imran Al-Jawni, I do not know of it except from Anas ibn Malik who said: Wahb ibn Umayr witnessed the Battle of Uhud as a disbeliever and he was wounded. He was among the dead when a man from the Ansar passed by and recognized him. The man placed his sword on Wahb's stomach until it came out from his back, then he left him. When the night fell and the cold weather struck him, he went to Makkah, and he was cured. He met Safwan ibn Umayyah in a cave and Wahb said, "If it weren't for my debts and my family, I would have loved to be the one to kill Muhammad." Safwan asked him, "How would you do it?" Wahb replied, "I am a generous man and I would approach him with kindness, then strike him with my sword while riding a horse, and no one would be able to catch me." Safwan said, "Your family is with my family, and you have debts to me." So, Wahb sharpened his sword and named it, then went out to Madinah with the sole intention of killing the Prophet. When he arrived in Madinah, Umar ibn Al-Khattab saw him and felt uneasy about him. Umar said to the companions of the Prophet, "I saw Wahb approaching our city and he is a treacherous man. Prepare to defend your Prophet." The Muslims surrounded the Prophet and Wahb came and stood in front of him. He said, "Good morning, Muhammad." The Prophet replied, "Allah has replaced it with something better." Wahb said, "I have come to redeem my captives." The Prophet asked, "What about the sword?" Wahb said, "We carried it on the day of Badr but we were not successful nor triumphant." The Prophet asked, "What did you say to Safwan in the cave?" Wahb replied, "I informed him of what people on earth say but they call you a liar. But I see that you inform the heavens of your news. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and you are the Messenger of Allah." Wahb then said, "Oh Messenger of Allah, give me your turban." The Prophet gave him his turban and Wahb left for Makkah. Umar said, "He has arrived and he is more detestable to me than a pig," but when he returned, Umar said, "He is more beloved to me than some of my children."

[AI] The horses of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or the messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came with a scorpion, so they took my aunt and some people. When they came to him (the Prophet) ﷺ , they made way for him. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, the one who has come has left, the child has been severed, and I am an old woman and I have no one to serve me. So may Allah bless whoever helps me." He said, "Who is your guest?" She said, "Adi ibn Hatim." He said, "Which one fled from Allah and His Messenger?" She said, "So may Allah bless whoever helps me." So when Adi returned, there was a man with him who seemed to be Ali. He said, "Salih, carry her loads." She said, "So I asked him and he ordered a donkey. I said, 'You have done what your father used to do.'" She said, "Go to him as a person in need or as a monk, for so and so came to him and he was affected by him, and so and so came to him and he was affected by him. So I went to him, and there was a woman and children or a child with him. He mentioned their relation to the Prophet ﷺ , so I knew that he was not a king like Khosrau and Caesar. He said, "O Adi, what prevents you from saying 'La ilaha illallah' (there is no god but Allah)? Is there any god other than Allah?" He said, "What prevents you from saying 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the greatest)? Is there anything greater than Allah?" So I embraced Islam, and I saw his face light up and he said, "Indeed, the Jews are those who are cursed, and indeed, the Christians are those who are astray." Then some people came to him and praised Allah, and he praised Him. Then he said, "Now, O people, it is for you to be humble before His grace, as a person humbles himself before a measure of food with a measured handful." Shu'bah said, "And most of what I know is that he said with a date, splitting a date. Indeed, one of you will meet Allah and He will say, 'Did I not make you hearing and seeing? Did I not grant you wealth and children? So what have you brought?' So he will look to his right, left, front, and behind him, but he will not find anything. So he will not fear the Fire except by Allah's face. So fear the Fire, even if it is with half a date. And if you do not find that, then with a good word. Indeed, I do not fear poverty for you, for Allah will help you and give you victory, or He will open up for you until the she-camel enters between two mountains, the fear of which is greater, that Thamud feared."

[AI] In a sale or donation she made, Aisha said, "By Allah, I will never speak to Ibn Zubayr again, ever. Abdullah ibn Zubayr interceded on his behalf when her seclusion with him became prolonged. Aisha said, "By Allah, I will not intercede for anyone in this matter, nor will I break the vow I made. When this went on for a long time, the Mawsur ibn Makhrama and Abdul Rahman ibn Al-Aswad ibn Abd Yaghuth, both of whom belonged to the tribe of Zuhra, spoke to him. They said, "We adjure you by Allah, unless you let us in to see Aisha, it is not permissible for her to sever ties with me. Mawsur and Abdul Rahman both approached the door of Ibn Zubayr, wrapped in their garments until they sought permission to enter upon Aisha. They said, "Peace be upon the Prophet and the mercy of Allah, may we enter?" Aisha said, "Enter." They said, "All of us, O Mother of the Believers?" She said, "All of you, and Aisha did not know that Ibn Zubayr was with them. When they entered, Ibn Zubayr broke into the curtain and embraced Aisha and began beseeching her and crying. Mawsur and Abdul Rahman also beseeched Aisha, except for what she said to them and accepted from them. They said to her, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade what you have learned about seclusion. It is not permissible for a Muslim to seclude himself from his brother for more than three nights." When they continued to remind and urge Aisha, she began to cry and said, "I made a vow and vows are serious." They persisted until she spoke to Ibn Zubayr and freed forty slaves in fulfillment of her vow. After that, she would often mention her vow and cry until her tears wet her face veil.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 6073)

[AI] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, told me that Abdullah bin Zubair said about a sale or a gift that Aisha gave him, "By Allah, Aisha will either stop or I will stone her." She asked, "Is this what he said?" They replied, "Yes." She said, "He has made a vow to Allah that he will never speak to Ibn Zubair again." When Ibn Zubair's migration became lengthy, Ibn Musawir bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Aswad bin Abd Yaghooth, both of whom were from the Banu Zuhrah tribe, spoke to him. They said, "We swear by Allah, we will not enter upon Aisha unless you allow us." Aisha told them to enter. They asked, "May we all enter, O Mother of the Believers?" She replied, "Yes, all of you enter and make sure Aisha doesn't know that Ibn Zubair is with you." When they entered, Ibn Zubair entered the curtain and embraced Aisha. He trembled and she tried to console him. Ibn Musawir bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Aswad also tried to console Aisha and begged her, "For the sake of Allah, speak to him and accept his apology." She accepted his apology. They told her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden migration, as she knew, and said, "It is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three nights." When they persisted with Aisha, reminding and urging her, she trembled, reminded them, and wept, saying, "I made a vow, and a vow is a serious matter." They did not stop until she spoke to Ibn Zubair. Then she freed forty slaves as part of her vow. After she had freed the forty slaves, she would mention her vow and weep until her tears wet her veil.

[AI] Until he reached the women, then he added in the end of the speech things that you were promised and I have seen in my prayer until the fire comes and when you saw me, I hesitated for fear that it would burn me, and until I saw the owner of the broom dragging his broom in the fire, stealing the belongings of the pilgrims with his broom, if he was caught, he said, "It is attached to my broom," and if he was not noticed, he went away, and until I saw the owner of the cat that she tied it and did not feed it and did not let it eat from the earth's crust until it died of hunger, then the paradise was brought and that was when you saw me advance until I stood in my position and I stretched out my hand and I wanted to take its fruit for you to see it, then it appeared to me that I should not do it, so there is nothing that I promised you except that I have seen it in my prayer.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 6073)

[AI] I saw Umar ibn Al-Khattab before he was struck by the days in Medina. He stood with Hudhaifah ibn Al-Yaman and Uthman ibn Hunayf and said, "How have you two managed to bear the burden of the earth that it cannot bear?" They said, "We have carried it by a command that it can bear." Hudhaifah said, "If I were to carry it, it would be weakened." Uthman ibn Hunayf said, "I have carried it by a command that it can bear, without any great favor." Umar then said, "See that you have not carried the burden of the earth that it cannot bear." They said, "No." Umar said, "If Allah grants me safety, I will leave the widows of Iraq without needing any man after me." He said, "Only four things came upon him until he was struck." He said, "And between me and him, there is no one except Abdullah ibn Abbas in the morning." He said, "And he used to stand between the rows. If he saw any disorder among them, he would say, 'Stand still until there is no disorder among them.' Then he would proceed and say the takbir." He said, "And perhaps he would recite Surah Yusuf or An-Nahl or something similar in the first raka'a until the people gathered." He said, "And it was only that he would say the takbir." He said, "I heard him say, 'The dog has killed me or the dog has eaten me,' when he was stabbed. Then he flew out of the wound with a double-edged knife that would not pass by anyone to the right or left except that it would stab him, until he stabbed thirteen men and nine of them died. When he saw that, a Muslim man threw a cloak on him. When the assassin thought that he had taken hold of him, he slit his own throat." He said, "And Umar held the hand of Abdullah ibn Awf and brought him forward." He said, "Who will take care of Umar? He has seen what he has seen." He said, "Regarding the surroundings of the mosque, they did not know anything except that they had lost the voice of Umar while they were saying, 'Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah.' Abdul-Rahman ibn Awf led them in a light prayer. When they finished, Umar said, 'O Ibn Abbas, see who killed me.' He went for a while and then came back and said, 'The slave of Al-Mughirah killed him.' He said, 'Really?' After they all spoke with their tongues and prayed towards their qibla and performed the Hajj according to their rites, he was brought to his house. We then left with him." He said, "And it was as if the people had not been affected by any calamity before that day. Some were saying, 'There is no harm,' while others were saying, 'We fear for him.' So they brought some wine and he drank it, and it came out of his wound. Then they brought some milk and he drank it, and it came out of his wound.
