[Machine] Kardam ibn Sufyan al-Thaqafi came to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have vowed to sacrifice 100 camels in Buwana." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , asked him, "On a pagan altar?" Kardam replied, "No." The Prophet, ﷺ , then asked, "On a gathering of people from the time of ignorance?" Kardam replied, "No." The Prophet, ﷺ , then said, "Fulfill your vow wherever it was, O Kardam, for there is no vow or oath in disobedience to Allah."  

الطبراني:١٦٥٣٨ – حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا كَامِلُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو

أَنَّ كَرْدَمَ بْنَ سُفْيَانَ الثَّقَفِيَّ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ ذُودَ إِبِلٍ بِبُوَانَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَلَى وَثَنٍ؟» فَقَالَ لَا فَقَالَ «أَعَلَى جَمَعٍ مِنْ جُمُوعِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ حَيْثُ كَانَ يَا كَرْدَمُ إِنَّهُ لَا نَذْرَ وَلَا يَمِينَ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللهِ»

In the time of the Prophet ﷺ a man took a vow to slaughter a camel at Buwanah. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: I have taken a vow to sacrifice a camel at Buwanah. The Prophet ﷺ asked: Did the place contain any idol worshipped in pre-Islamic times? They (the people) said: No. He asked: Was any pre-Islamic festival observed there? They replied: No. The Prophet ﷺ said: Fulfil your vow, for a vow to do an act of disobedience to Allah must not be fulfilled, neither must one do something over which a human being has no control. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3313)   

الطبراني:١٣٤١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قِلَابَةَ حَدَّثَنِي ثَابِتُ بْنُ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ

نَذَرَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ ينْحَرَ بِبُوَانَةَ فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ بِبُوَانَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا وَثَنٌ مِنْ أَوْثَانِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يُعْبَدُ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَهَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا عِيدٌ مِنْ أَعْيَادِهِمْ؟» قَالَ لَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ فَإِنَّهُ لَا وَفَاءَ لِنَذْرٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللهِ وَلَا فِي قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمٍ وَلَا فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ابْنُ آدَمَ»
