On the authority of his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade to break the coins of the Muslims current among them except for some defect. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3449)  

الطبراني:١٤١٢٤حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِرْقٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَطِيَّةُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ أَبِي عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ عَنْ مُعْتَمِرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ فَضَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ تُكْسَرَ سِكَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ الْجَائِزَةُ بَيْنَهُمْ إِلاَّ مِنْ بَأْسٍ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade breaking the coins of the Muslims that are in circulation among them, without any necessary reason.”(1)
