[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to throw small stones (as a way of counting) when the sun went down, just as when he finished praying the Dhuhr (noon) prayer.  

الطبراني:١٢١١٠حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي مُزَاحِمٍ ثنا أَبُو شَيْبَةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ «يَرْمِي الْجِمَارَ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَدْرَ مَا إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ رَمْيِهَا صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ»

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stone the Pillars when the sun had passed its zenith, to the extent that, as soon as he finished stoning them, he would pray Zuhr.
