[Machine] These are men from the people of Mecca who embraced Islam and wanted to come to the Messenger of Allah to seek knowledge of the religion. When they came to the Messenger of Allah and demonstrated understanding in the religion, they wanted to be rewarded. So Allah revealed, "O you who have believed, indeed, among your wives and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon and overlook and forgive – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

quran:64:14

O you who have believed, indeed, among your wives and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon and overlook and forgive - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

O you who believe! Indeed among your wives and children there are enemies for you, so beware of them, of obeying them in neglecting ˹the performance of˺ good ˹deeds˺, such as struggling or emigrating — because the reason why this verse was revealed was ˹precisely their˺ obedience ˹of them˺ in such ˹matters˺. And if you pardon, them, for their impeding you from such good ˹deeds˺, justifying it on account of the distress that parting with you causes them, and overlook ˹such enmity˺ and forgive, then assuredly God is Forgiving, Merciful.

Ibn Abbas was asked by a man about this Ayah: O you who believe! Verity, among your wives and your children there are enemies for you; therefore beware of them! He said: “These are men who submitted (to Islam) in Makkah, and they wanted to come to the Prophet but their wives and children refused to allow them to come to the Messenger of Allah. So when they came to the Messenger of Allah, they saw that the people had gained such understanding in the religion that they wanted to punish them (their families). So Allah revealed the Ayah: O you who believe! Verily, among your wives and your children there are enemies for you; therefore beware of them!”

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.

[Machine] This verse {Indeed, among your wives and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them} [Al-Taghabun 14] was revealed in a group of people from the people of Mecca who embraced Islam and wanted to come to the Prophet ﷺ . However, their wives and children refused to let them go, so they came to Medina. When they arrived in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , they saw that they had attained knowledge, so they understood that they deserve punishment. Then Allah, the Almighty, revealed the verse {But if you pardon and overlook} [Al-Taghabun 14].
