"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded Bilal to say the phrases of the Adhan twice and the phrases of the Iqamah once."

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِلاَلاً أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الأَذَانَ وَأَنْ يُوتِرَ الإِقَامَةَ

"At the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the phrases of the Adhan were said twice and the phrases of the Iqamah were said once, except that you should say: 'Qad Qamatis-Salah, Qad Qamatis-Salah (prayer is about to begin, prayer is about to begin).'"

كَانَ الأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً إِلاَّ أَنَّكَ تَقُولُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَةُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَةُ

"I asked Ibn 'Umar about the Adhan and he said: 'At the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the phrases of the Adhan were recited twice and the phrases of Iqamah once, except that you should say (the phrase) Qad qamat is-salah (prayer is about to begin)twice. When we heard 'prayer is about to begin' we would perform Wudu' and go out to pray.'"

كَانَ الأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً إِلاَّ أَنَّكَ إِذَا قُلْتَ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَةُ قَالَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ فَإِذَا سَمِعْنَا قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَةُ تَوَضَّأْنَا ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ

"I asked Ibn 'Umar about the Adhan and he said: 'At the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the phrases of the Adhan were recited twice and the phrases of Iqamah once, except that you should say (the phrase) Qad qamat is-salah (prayer is about to begin)twice. أَنَّهُ قَالَ كَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَالَ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ فَإِذَا سَمِعْنَا الْإِقَامَةَ تَوَضَّأَ أَحَدُنَا وَخَرَجَ

Anas reported; Bilal was commanded to pronounce Adhan in double pairs and IQAMAH in single pairs. Hammam added in his version; “except IQAMAH”. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 508)

«أُمِرَ بِلَالٌ أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ إِلَّا الْإِقَامَةَ»

"At the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the phrases of the Adhan were said twice and the phrases of the Iqamah were said once, except that you should say: 'Qad Qamatis-Salah, Qad Qamatis-Salah (prayer is about to begin, prayer is about to begin).'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 628)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَمَرَ بِلَالًا أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ»

The words of adhan were pronounced from the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ twice in pairs (i.e. four times) each, and the words of iqamah were pronounced once in pairs (twice each), except that the phrase "The time for prayer has come" would be pronounced twice. When we heard iqamah, we would perform ablution, and go out for prayer. Shu'bah said: I did not hear AbuJa'far narrating any other tradition except this one. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 510)

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded Bilal to say the phrases of the Adhan twice and the phrases of the Iqamah once." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 627)

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِلَالًا أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ»

[AI] I heard Ibn Umar saying, "During the time of the Prophet ﷺ, the Adhan (call to prayer) was repeated twice, and the Iqamah (second call to prayer) was performed once, except that he used to say, 'The prayer has been established twice.'"

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ «كَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالْإِقَامَةُ وَاحِدَةٌ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ يَقُولُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ مَرَّتَيْنِ»

"They looked for something by means of which they could call out informing of (the time of) the prayer. Then Bilal was commanded to say the phrases of the Adhan twice and the phrases of the Iqamah once." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 729)

«أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَ أَنَّهُمُ الْتَمَسُوا شَيْئًا يُؤَذِّنُونَ بِهِ عَلَمًا لِلصَّلَاةِ فَأُمِرَ بِلَالٌ أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ»

قَالَ كَانَ الأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَالإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً إِلاَّ أَنَّ الْمُؤَذِّنَ كَانَ يَقُولُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلاَةُ مَرَّتَيْنِ

أَنُّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِلَالًا أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِلَالًا أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ

أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ إِلَّا قَوْلَهُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ

[AI] The adhan during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was said in pairs, and the iqamah was said once, except that the caller, when saying, "Prayer is about to begin," would say it twice.

"أمِرَ بِلاَلٌ أنْ يَشْفَعَ الأذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الإقَامَةَ إِلاَّ الإقَامَةَ".

"أمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِلاَلًا أَنْ يَشْفعَ الأذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الإِقَامَةَ إِلَى قَوْلِه: قَدْ قَامَتْ الصَّلاَةُ فَإِنَّهَا مَرَّتيْنِ".

"عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِي ﷺ أمَرَ بِلاَلًا: أنْ يَشْفَعَ الأذَانَ وَيُوتِرَ الإِقَامَةَ".
