"يَا عَائِشَةُ: إِنَّ الله أَفْتَانِى فِيمَا اسْتَفْتَيْتُهُ فيه: جَاءَنِى رَجُلاَنِ فَقَعَد أَحَدُهُمَا عِنْدَ رَأسِى، وَالآخَرُ عِنْدَ رَجْلِى، فَقَالَ الَّذِى عِنْدَ رَأسِى لِلَّذي عِنْدَ رِجْلى: مَا وَجَعُ الرجلِ؟ قَالَ: مَطبوُبٌ، قَالَ: مَنْ طَبَّهُ؟ قَالَ: لَبِيدُ بْنُ الأعْصَمِ، قَالَ: في أىِّ شَىْءٍ؟ قَالَ: في مُشْطٍ وَمُشَاطَةٍ وَجُفِّ طَلعَة ذَكرٍ، قَالَ: فَأيْنَ هُوَ؟ قَالَ: فِى بِئْرِ ذِى أَرْوَان، يَا عَائِشَةُ: والله لَكَأَنَّ مَاءَهَا نُقَاعَةُ الحِنَّاءِ، وَلَكَأنَّ نَخْلَهَا رُءُوسُ الشّيَاطِينِ".

A man called Labid bin al-A'sam from the tribe of Bani Zaraiq worked magic on Messenger of Allah ﷺ till Messenger of Allah ﷺ started imagining that he had done a thing that he had not really done. One day or one night he was with us, he invoked Allah and invoked for a long period, and then said, "O ʿAisha! Do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I have asked him about? Two men came to me and one of them sat near my head and the other near my feet. One of them said to his companion, "What is the disease of this man?" The other replied, "He is under the effect of magic.' The first one asked, 'Who has worked the magic on him?' The other replied, "Labid bin Al-A'sam.' The first one asked, 'What material did he use?' The other replied, 'A comb and the hairs stuck to it and the skin of pollen of a male date palm.' The first one asked, 'Where is that?' The other replied, '(That is) in the well of Dharwan;' " So Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with some of his companions went there and came back saying, "O ʿAisha, the color of its water is like the infusion of Henna leaves. The tops of the date-palm trees near it are like the heads of the devils." I asked. "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Why did you not show it (to the people)?" He said, "Since Allah cured me, I disliked to let evil spread among the people." Then he ordered that the well be filled up with earth.

Magic was worked on Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that he began to imagine that he had done something although he had not. I asked, "What is that, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said, "Two men came to me; one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. The other replied, 'Labid bin A'sam, a Jew from the tribe of Bani Zuraiq.' The (first one asked), 'With what has it been done?' The other replied, 'With a a comb and the hair stuck to it and a skin of the pollen of a male datepalm tree.' The first one asked, 'Where is it?' The other replied, 'In the well of Dharwan.' Then the Prophet ﷺ went along with some of his companions to that well and looked at that and there were date palms near to it. Then he returned to me and said, 'By Allah the water of that well was (red) like the infusion of Henna leaves and its date-palms were like the heads of devils" I said, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Did you take those materials out of the pollen skin?" He said, 'No! As for me Allah has healed me and cured me and I was afraid that (by Showing that to the people) I would spread evil among them when he ordered that the well be filled up with earth, and it was filled up with earth "

The Prophet ﷺ continued for such-and-such period imagining that he has slept (had sexual relations) with his wives, and in fact he did not. One day he said, to me, "O ʿAisha! Allah has instructed me regarding a matter about which I had asked Him. There came to me two men, one of them sat near my feet and the other near my head. The one near my feet, asked the one near my head (pointing at me), 'What is wrong with this man? The latter replied, 'He is under the effect of magic.' The first one asked, 'Who had worked magic on him?' The other replied, 'Lubaid bin Asam.' The first one asked, 'What material (did he use)?' The other replied, 'The skin of the pollen of a male date tree with a comb and the hair stuck to it, kept under a stone in the well of Dharwan."' Then the Prophet ﷺ went to that well and said, "This is the same well which was shown to me in the dream. The tops of its date-palm trees look like the heads of the devils, and its water looks like the Henna infusion." Then the Prophet ﷺ ordered that those things be taken out. I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Won't you disclose (the magic object)?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has cured me and I hate to circulate the evil among the people." ʿAisha added, "(The magician) Lubaid bin Asam was a man from Bani Zuraiq, an ally of the Jews."

that a Jew from among the Jews of Banu Zuraiq who was called Labid b. al-A'sam cast a spell upon Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the result that he (under the influence of the spell) felt that he had been doing something whereas in fact he had not been doing that. (This state of affairs lasted) until one day or during one night Messenger of Allah ﷺ made supplication (to dispel its effects). He again made a supplication and he again did this and said to 'A'isha: "Do you know that Allah has told me what I had asked Him? There came to me two men and one amongst them sat near my head and the other one near my feet and he who sat near my head said to one who sat near my feet or one who sat near my feet said to one who sat near my head: What is the trouble with the man? He said: The spell has affected him. He said: Who has cast that? He (the other one) said: It was Labid b. A'sam (who has done it). He said: What is the thing by which he transmitted its effect? He said: By the comb and by the hair stuck to the comb and the spathe of the date-palm. He said: Where is that? He replied: In the well of Dhi Arwan." She said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent some of the persons from among his Companions there and then said: "'A'isha, by Allah, its water was yellow like henna and its trees were like heads of the devils." She said that she asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ as to why he did not burn that. He said: "No, Allah has cured me and I do not like that I should induce people to commit any high-handedness in regard (to one another), but I only commanded that it should be buried."

“A Jew from among the Jews of Bani Zuraiq, whose name was Labid bin A’sam, cast a spell on the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ began to imagine that he had done something when he had not. [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was bewitched until he believed that he was doing something, but he was not. Then, one day, I saw him making a supplication, and he said, "I felt that Allah ﷻ had informed me about what I had asked Him, so he said: Two men came to me, one sitting by my head and the other by my feet. One of them asked, 'What is bothering this man?' The other replied, 'He is under a spell.' The first one asked, 'Who cast the spell?' The reply was, 'Labid ibn al-A'sam.' He asked, 'In what did he cast the spell?' The reply was, 'In a comb and the hair stuck to it and a pollen mixture.' The first one asked, 'Where is it?' The reply was, 'In the well of Dhu Arwan.' Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went. When he returned, he informed Aisha, 'It is as if her date-palms have become the heads of devils, and its water is like the infusion of hinna.' So, I asked him, 'Did you take it out for the people?' He replied, 'As for Allah ﷻ, He has cured me, and I was afraid to cause harm to people through it.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سُحِرَ لَهُ حَتَّى كَانَ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ يَصْنَعُ الشَّيْءَ وَلَمْ يَصْنَعْ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ رَأَيْتُهُ يَدْعُو فَقَالَ شَعَرْتُ أَنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ أَفْتَانِي فِيمَا اسْتَفْتَيْتُهُ فِيهِ فَقَالَ أَتَانِي رَجُلَانِ فَقَعَدَ أَحَدُهُمَا عِنْدَ رَأْسِي وَالْآخَرُ عِنْدَ رِجْلِي فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا مَا وَجَعُ الرَّجُلِ؟ قَالَ الْآخَرُ مَطْبُوبٌ؟ قَالَ مَنْ طَبَّهُ؟ قَالَ لَبِيدُ بْنُ الْأَعْصَمِ قَالَ فِي مَاذَا؟ قَالَ فِي مُشْطٍ وَمُشَاطَةٍ وَجُبِّ طَلْعَةِ ذَكَرٍ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ هُوَ؟ قَالَ فِي ذِي أَرْوَانَ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَ عَائِشَةَ قَالَ وَكَأَنَّ نَخْلَهَا رُءُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَكَأَنَّ مَاءَهَا نُقَاعَةُ الْحِنَّاءِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَخْرَجْتَهُ لِلنَّاسِ؟ فَقَالَ أَمَّا اللهُ ﷻ فَقَدْ شَفَانِي وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ أُثَوِّرَ عَلَى النَّاسِ مِنْهُشَرًّا

“A Jew from among the Jews of Bani Zuraiq, whose name was Labid bin A’sam, cast a spell on the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ began to imagine that he had done something when he had not. One day, or one night, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated, and then supplicated again. Then he said: ‘O ‘Aishah, do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I asked Him about? Two men came to me, and one of them sat at my head and the other at my feet. The one at my head said to the one at my feet, or the one at my feet said to the one at my head "what is ailing this man ?" He said: “He has been affected by a spell.” He said: “Who cast the spell on him?” He said: “Labid bin A’sam.” He said: “With what?” He said: “With a comb and the hairs stuck to it, and the spathe of a male date palm.” He said: “Where is that?” He said: “In the well of Dhu Arwan.” She said: “So the Prophet ﷺ went to it, with a group of his Companions, then he came and said: ‘By Allah. O ‘Aishah. It was as if its water was infused with henna and its date palms were like the heads of devils.’” She said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, why don’t you burn them?’ He said: ‘As for me, Allah has healed me, and I do not like to let evil spread among the people.’ Then he issued orders that the well be filled up with earth.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3545)

A man called Labid bin al-A'sam from the tribe of Bani Zaraiq worked magic on Messenger of Allah ﷺ till Messenger of Allah ﷺ started imagining that he had done a thing that he had not really done. One day or one night he was with us, he invoked Allah and invoked for a long period, and then said, "O ʿAisha! Do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I have asked him about? Two men came to me and one of them sat near my head and the other near my feet. One of them said to his companion, "What is the disease of this man?" The other replied, "He is under the effect of magic.' The first one asked, 'Who has worked the magic on him?' The other replied, "Labid bin Al-A'sam.' The first one asked, 'What material did he use?' The other replied, 'A comb and the hairs stuck to it and the skin of pollen of a male date palm.' The first one asked, 'Where is that?' The other replied, '(That is) in the well of Dharwan;' " So Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with some of his companions went there and came back saying, "O ʿAisha, the color of its water is like the infusion of Henna leaves. The tops of the date-palm trees near it are like the heads of the devils." I asked. "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Why did you not show it (to the people)?" He said, "Since Allah cured me, I disliked to let evil spread among the people." Then he ordered that the well be filled up with earth. (Using translation from Bukhārī 5763)   

الكبرى للنسائي:٧٥٦٩أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
