“You should eat the beneficial thing that is unpleasant to eat: Talbinah,” meaning broth. If any member of the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sick, the cooking pot would remain on the fire until one of two things happened, either the person recovered or died.
[AI] "When it was said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that so-and-so complains of hunger and does not eat food, he would say, 'The talbeenah is upon you, so let him have it. By the One in whose hand is my soul, it cleanses the stomach of one of you just as one of you cleanses his face with water from impurities.'"
“You should eat the beneficial thing that is unpleasant to eat: Talbinah,” meaning broth. If any member of the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sick, the cooking pot would remain on the fire until one of two things happened, either the person recovered or died. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3446)
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ, when it was said to him that so-and-so has a stomach ache and cannot eat food, he said: "Use Talbeenah, for I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, it cleanses the stomach of one of you as it cleanses the face of one of you with water from impurities."
[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Upon you is to use the tooth stick, for it is a purifier for the mouth and it washes the belly of one of you just as one of you washes his face with water from impurities". She (Aisha) said: "When someone from his family complained, a man used to continue to be in pain until someone from the two sides comes upon him". She (Aisha) said: "He meant a jinn in Baghdad. When someone from his family complained about something, he would continue to be in pain until someone from his two sides comes upon him".
[AI] I heard Ayman Al-Makki say: Fatimah bint Al-Mundhir informed me that Umm Kulthum narrated from Aisha that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Stick to the beneficial hatred, by the One in whose hand is my soul, indeed he washes the stomach of one of you as he washes the filth from his face with water." He said, "When someone complained to the Prophet ﷺ about a member of his family, the bottle would continue to boil on the fire until one of his sides was decided, either death or life."
[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "Upon you is to use al-talbineh, the beneficial plant. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it surely washes the inside of one of you as water washes the dirt off the face." She said: "And when anyone among his family complained, the barmah (a type of medicine) would continuously be put on the fire until one of his limbs was affected, either death or life."
[AI] "Upon you is the disliked, beneficial herb called talbeenah, which the soul of Muhammad himself, may ﷺ , has in his hand. Indeed, it cleanses the stomach of anyone just as water cleanses dirt from the face." She said, "And when someone among his family complained, the Prophet, may ﷺ , would not cease applying the brand onto the fire until one of his limbs was cured. It would either result in death or in life." Rawh, the daughter of Abi Layth, and Um Kulthoom, the daughter of Amr Ibn Abi Aqrib, said.
[AI] "When someone from his family or others would fall ill, it would be said to him that he does not eat food. He would say, 'You should give him al-talbeenah, which is made of barley flour and honey, and by the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it cleanses the stomach of one of you just as one of you cleanses his face with water from impurity.' Aisha said, 'When someone from his family would become ill, the burner would always be kept lit until one of two things would happen: either he would die or he would recover.'"
[AI] "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, 'I advise you to use a tooth stick, for it is a purifier for the mouth and is pleasing to the Lord.' And by the One in Whose hand is my soul, it cleans the stomach of one of you just as one of you cleans his face with water from filth.' She, may Allah be pleased with her, said, 'Whenever someone from his family complained of something, the tooth stick would not leave the fire until it came to one of his two sides.'"
