"عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أبِى يَزِيدَ قَالَ: كانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنِ الأَمْرِ فَإِنْ كَانَ فِى القُرْآنِ أَخْبَرَ بِهِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِى اْلقُرْآنِ، وَكَانَ عَنْ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ أخْبَرَ بهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ في الْقُرآنِ وَلَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ، وَكَانَ عَنْ أبِى بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ أخْبَرَ بِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِى شَىْءٍ مِنْ ذَلِكَ اجْتَهَدَ بِرَأيِهِ".

[Machine] Regarding this matter, if it is mentioned in the Quran, then it is true. And if it is not mentioned in the Quran, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has mentioned it, then it is also true. And if it is not mentioned by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then it is conveyed from Abu Bakr and Umar. And if it is not mentioned by them, then it is his personal opinion.
