[Machine] When Abu Bakr became seriously ill, Aisha recited the following verse [from the long ocean]:
"Avoid what distracts you from the youth, when the chest becomes narrow with worry" (Quran 19).
So Abu Bakr said, "That's not it, my dear daughter. But say instead, 'And the stupor of death will bring the Truth; that is what you were trying to avoid'" (Quran 19).
Then he said, "Look at these two garments of mine. Wash them and shroud me in them, for the living have more need of new clothes than the dead."
لَمَّا احْتُضِرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ تَمَثَّلَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ بِهَذَا الْبَيْتِ [البحر الطويل] أَعَاذِلُ مَا يُغْنِي الْحَذَارُ عَنِ الْفَتَى إِذَا حَشْرَجَتْ يَوْمًا وَضَاقَ بِهَا الصَّدْرُ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ لَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ يَا بُنَيَّةُ وَلَكِنْ قُولِي {وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ} [ق 19] فَقَالَ «انْظُرُوا ثَوْبِي هَذَيْنِ فَاغْسِلُوهُمَا ثُمَّ كَفِّنُونِي فِيهِمَا فَإِنَّ الْحَيَّ أَحْوَجُ إِلَى الْجَدِيدِ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ»
