the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ seated me behind him ˹on his ride˺ one day, and told me secretly a thing asking me not to tell it to anyone. The place for easing dearer to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was a mound or host of palm trees by which he could conceal himself.

He entered the garden of a man from the Anṣār (Helpers). All of a sudden when a camel saw the Prophet ﷺ it wept tenderly producing a yearning sound and its eyes flowed. The Prophet ﷺ came to it and wiped the temple of its head and it calmed down. He then said, “Who is the owner of this camel? Whose camel is this?" A young man from the Ansar came and said “This is mine, O Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.” He said “Don’t you fear Allāh about this beast which Allāh has given in your possession? It has complained to me that you keep it hungry and load it heavily which fatigues it.”

While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, a person came upon his mount and began to stare on the right and on the left, (it was at this moment) that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who has an extra mount should give that to one who has no mount for him, and he who has surplus of provisions should give them to him who has no provisions, and he made mention of so many kinds of wealth until we were of the opinion that none of us has any right over the surplus.

Once the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to go on an expedition. He said: O group of the emigrants (Muhajirun) and the helpers (Ansar), among your brethren there are people who have neither property nor family. So one of you should take with him two or three persons; with me. I also rode on my camel by turns like one of them.

Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord. O Allah, we seek virtue and piety from Thee in this journey of ours and the act which pleaseth Thee. O Allah, lighten this journey of ours, and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, Thou art (our) companion during the journey, and guardian of (our) family. O Allah, I seek refuge with Thee from hardships of the journey, gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. And he (the Holy Prophet) uttered (these words), and made this addition to them: We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord. and praising Him.

Ali ibn Rabi'ah said: I was present with Ali while a beast was brought to him to ride. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said: "In the name of Allah." Then when he sat on its back, he said: "Praise be to Allah." He then said: "Glory be to Him Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength, and to our Lord do we return." He then said: "Praise be to Allah (thrice); Allah is Most Great (thrice): glory be to Thee, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for only Thou forgivest sins." He then laughed. He was asked: At what did you laugh? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do as I have done, and laugh after that. I asked: Messenger of Allah , at what are you laughing? He replied: Your Lord, Most High, is pleased with His servant when he says: "Forgive me my sins." He know that no one forgives sins except Him.
