Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a gold or silver .. ring and placed its stone towards the palm of his hand. The people also started wearing gold rings like it, but when the Prophet ﷺ saw them wearing such rings, he threw away that golden ring and then wore a silver ring.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ فَاتَّخَذَهُ النَّاسُ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ

The Prophet ﷺ wore a gold ring and then the people followed him and wore gold rings too. Then the Prophet said, "I had this golden ring made for myself. He then threw it away and said, "I shall never put it on." Thereupon the people also threw their rings away.

اتَّخَذَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنِّي اتَّخَذْتُ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَنَبَذَهُ وَقَالَ إِنِّي لَنْ أَلْبَسَهُ أَبَدًا فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold and put its stone toward his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] threw away his ring and said: 'I will never wear it again,' and the people threw away their rings."

اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ كَفِّهِ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ الذَّهَبِ فَأَلْقَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَاتَمَهُ وَقَالَ لاَ أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا وَأَلْقَى النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a seal made of gold, and he used to place its impression from the bottom of his palm. People then started adopting this practice. He threw it away and then took a seal made of silver.

اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ فَاتَّخَذَهُ النَّاسُ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a gold ring, so the people also took gold rings. Then he threw it and said, "I will never wear it." Yazid said, "So the people threw away their rings."

اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَقَالَ لَنْ أَلْبَسَهُ أَبَدًا قَالَ يَزِيدُ فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a ring made of gold, so the people started taking gold rings as well. He then threw it from his hand and said, "I will never wear it again." He then took a ring made of silver and wore it on the lower part of his palm and engraved on it, "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah." He kept wearing it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away.

اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ الذَّهَبِ فَأَلْقَاهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ وَقَالَ «لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا» وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرَقٍ فَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ وَنَقَشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ فِي يَدِهِ حَتَّى قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a gold ring and wore it on his right hand. He placed the gemstone side of it towards the palm of his hand. Then, he threw it away and took a ring made of silver.

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَلَبِسَهُ فِي يَمِينِهِ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي بَطْنَ كَفِّهِ ثُمَّ رَمَى بِهِ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ»

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold and put its stone toward his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] threw away his ring and said: 'I will never wear it again,' and the people threw away their rings." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5214)

اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِنْ قِبَلِ كَفِّهِ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ الذَّهَبَ فَأَلْقَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمَهُ وَقَالَ «لَا أَلْبَسَهُ أَبَدًا» وَأَلْقَى النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold and put its stone (Fass) toward his palm. Then the people started to wear rings, and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] discarded it and said: "I will never wear it again." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5215)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ فَطَرَحَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَقَالَ «لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a gold ring and placed its gem on the inner part of his palm. People followed him and did the same, taking a ring made of paper or silver.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ

"عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَب فَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِى كَفَّهُ، فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِمَ فَطَرَحَهُ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ وَقَالَ: لاَ أَلبَسُهُ".
