I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! For the acceptance of my repentance I wish to give all my property in charity for Allah's sake through His Apostle ." He said, "It is better for you to keep some of the property for yourself." I said, "Then I will keep my share in Khaibar."  

سَمِعْتُ كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ؓ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُمْسِكُ سَهْمِي الَّذِي بِخَيْبَرَ  

I heard Kaʿb bin Malik talking about the Verse:-- 'And to the three (He also forgave) who remained behind.' (9.118) saying in the last portion of his talk, "(I said), 'As a part (sign) of my repentance, I would like to give up all my property in the cause of Allah and His Apostle,' The Prophet ﷺ said to me, 'Keep some of your wealth as it is good for you." (To the three (He also forgave) who remained behind till for them the earth, vast as it is, was straitened..." (9.118)  

فِي آخِرِ حَدِيثِهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهْوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ  

In the last part of his narration about the three who remained behind (from the battle of Tabuk). (I said) "As a proof of my true repentance (for not joining the Holy battle of Tabuk), I shall give up all my property for the sake of Allah and His Apostle (as an expiation for that sin)." The Prophet ﷺ said (to me), "Keep some of your wealth, for that is better for you."  

َقَالَ فِي آخِرِ حَدِيثِهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنِّي أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهْوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ  

"I heard Ka'b bin Malik narrating his Hadith about when he stayed behind and did not join the Messenger of Allah on the campaign to Tabuk. He said: 'When I sat down before him I said: "O Messenger of Allah, as part of my repentance I want to give my wealth in charity to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah said: "Keep some of your wealth for yourself; that is better for you." I said: "I will keep my share that is in Khaibar."'"  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا جَلَسْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ فَقُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُمْسِكُ سَهْمِي الَّذِي بِخَيْبَرَ مُخْتَصَرٌ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ مَالَكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُمْسِكُ عَلَىَّ سَهْمِي الَّذِي بِخَيْبَرَ  

I said: Messenger of Allah, to make my repentance complete I should divest myself of my property as sadaqah (alms) for Allah and His Apostle. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Retain some of your property, for that will be better for you. So he said: I shall retain the portion I have at Khaybar.  

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أُمْسِكُ سَهْمِيَ الَّذِي بِخَيْبَرَ  

[Machine] "When Ka'b ibn Malik repented to Allah, he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'Verily, Allah has only saved me through truthfulness, and part of my repentance to Allah is that I will never lie again. And I will give a portion of my wealth as charity to Allah and His Messenger.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him, 'Keep some of your wealth, as it is better for you.' He replied, 'But I will keep my bow from Khaybar.'"  

أَنَّ كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ لَمَّا تَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يُنْجِنِي إِلَّا بِالصِّدْقِ وَإِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي إِلَى اللهِ أَنْ لَا أَكْذِبَ أَبَدًا وَإِنِّي أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ قَالَ فَإِنِّي أُمْسِكُ سَهْمِي مِنْ خَيْبَرَ  

[Machine] He said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when Allah blessed and exalted him: "O Messenger of Allah, I want to give a charity from my wealth to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Hold on to some of your wealth, for it is better for you."  

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ تَابَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلَيْهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ  

[Machine] Abdullah ibn Ka'ab ibn Malik, when Allah guided him, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him and he said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah has saved me through truthfulness, and part of my repentance is that I will not lie and I will give up some of my wealth for the sake of Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hold onto some of your wealth, as it is better for you." He said, "I will hold onto the arrow of Khaybar."  

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ حِينَ تَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ جَاءَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْجَانِيَ اللهُ بِالصِّدْقِ وَإِنْ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ لَا أُحَدِّثَ كَذِبًا وَأَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي إِلَى اللهِ ﷻ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمْسِكْ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ» قَالَ أُمْسِكُ سَهْمَ خَيْبَرَ  

[Machine] He said to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , when he came to him, "O Messenger of Allah, I will give charity from my wealth to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to him, "Keep some of your wealth, as it is better for you."  

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ تِيبَ عَلَيْهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمْسِكْ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ»  

[Machine] About Ka'b ibn Malik, when Allah forgave him, he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah has saved me by telling the truth, and part of my repentance is that I will never lie again. Also, I will give away some of my wealth as charity for the sake of Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Keep some of your wealth, as it is better for you." Ka'b replied, "I will keep my bow and arrows from the Battle of Khaybar."  

عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ حِينَ تَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْجَانِيَ اللهُ بِالصِّدْقِ وَإِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ لَا أُحَدِّثَ كَذِبًا وَأَنْ أَتَخَلَّى مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ» قَالَ كَعْبٌ فَإِنِّي أُمْسِكُ سَهْمِي مِنْ خَيْبَرَ  

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, part of my repentance is to give charity from my wealth to Allah and to His Messenger." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Hold onto some of your wealth, as it is better for you."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ»  

[Machine] For the Prophet ﷺ , he was one of the three who renounced but then Allah accepted their repentance. Ka'b said to the Prophet ﷺ , "Indeed, part of my repentance is that I will only speak the truth and I will donate a charity to Allah and His Messenger from all of my wealth." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Keep some of your wealth for yourself."  

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَكَانَ أَحَدَ الثَّلَاثَةِ الَّذِينَ تَخَلَّفُوا ثُمَّ تَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ كَعْبٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ لَا أُحَدِّثَ إِلَّا صِدْقًا وَأَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ»

[Machine] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Battle of Tabuk, he mentioned the hadith at length, and in it, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, part of my repentance is to give charity from my wealth to Allah and to the Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hold on to some of your wealth, for it is better for you." So I said, "Then I will hold on to my arrow from the Battle of Khaybar," and he mentioned the hadith.
