In case a woman sees that, she must take a bath. Umm Sulaim said: I was bashful on account of that and said: Does it happen? Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Yes (it does happen), otherwise how can (a child) resemble her? Man's discharge (i. e. sperm) is thick and white and the discharge of woman is thin and yellow; so the resemblance comes from the one whose genes prevail or dominate.

أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَرَى فِي مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَتْ ذَلِكِ الْمَرْأَةُ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ وَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ وَهَلْ يَكُونُ هَذَا فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ إِنَّ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا عَلاَ أَوْ سَبَقَ يَكُونُ مِنْهُ الشَّبَهُ

Umm Sulaim, the mother of Bani Abu Talha, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and a hadith (like that) narrated by Hisham was narrated but for these words. A'isha said: I expressed disapproval to her, saying: Does a woman see a sexual dream?

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ أُمَّ بَنِي أَبِي طَلْحَةَ دَخَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ هِشَامٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِيهِ قَالَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ لَهَا أُفٍّ لَكِ أَتَرَى الْمَرْأَةُ ذَلِكِ

Messenger of Allah. Allah is not ashamed of truth what do you think, if a woman sees what a man sees in dream, should she take a bath or not? The prophet ﷺ replied: Yes, she should take a bath if she finds the liquid (vaginal secretion) ‘A’ishah said : Then I came upon her and said her : Woe to you! Does a woman see that (sexual dream)? In the meantime, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon me and said: May your right hand be covered with dust! How can there be the resemblance (i.e., between the child and the mother)? Abu Dawud said: A similar version has been narrated by Zubaid, ‘Uqail, Yunus, cousin of Al-Zuhri, Ibn Abi-Wazir, on the authority of al-Zuhr, musan, al-Hajabi, like al-Zuhri, narrated on the authority of ‘Urwah from ‘A’ishah, but Hisham b. ‘Urwah narrated from ‘Urwah on the authority of Zainab daughter of Abu Salamah from Umm Salamah saying. Umm Sulaim came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ لاَ يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَرَأَيْتَ الْمَرْأَةَ إِذَا رَأَتْ فِي النَّوْمِ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ أَتَغْتَسِلُ أَمْ لاَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ إِذَا وَجَدَتِ الْمَاءَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَأَقْبَلْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَقُلْتُ أُفٍّ لَكِ وَهَلْ تَرَى ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ تَرِبَتْ يَمِينُكِ يَا عَائِشَةُ وَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ

"O Messenger of Allah! Allah is not shy to tell the truth. Inform me: if a women sees in a dream what men see should she perform Ghusl from that?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: "Yes." 'Aishah said: "I expressed my displeasure and said: 'Does a woman see that?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to me and said: 'May your right hand be covered with dust! How else would (her child) resemble her?'"

Umm Sulaim asked the Messenger of Allah about a woman who sees in her dream something like that which a man sees. "O Messenger of Allah! Allah is not shy to tell the truth. Inform me: if a women sees in a dream what men see should she perform Ghusl from that?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: "Yes." Umm Sulaim asked the Messenger of Allah about a woman who sees in her dream something like that which a man sees. [AI] Um Salim asked the Prophet ﷺ , "Do women see what men see in their dreams?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If a woman sees what a man sees, meaning water, then she should perform ablution (ritual washing)." Um Salim asked, "Even when she is experiencing her period?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, the water of a man is thick and white, while the water of a woman is thin and yellow. So, whichever one comes first or overpowers the other, that is the more likely case." Sa'id said, "We doubt the similarity between the two."

أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَتْ تَرَى الْمَرْأَةُ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فِي مَنَامِهَا؟ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَتْ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ يَعْنِي الْمَاءَ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ أَوَ يَكُونُ؟ فَقَالَ نَّبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا سَبَقَ أَوْ عَلَا قَالَ سَعِيدٌ نَحْنُ نَشُكُّ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ

[AI] His mother, Umm Sulaim, asked the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . She said, "Does a woman see in her dream what a man sees?" He said, "If she sees that in her dream, then she should perform ghusl (a ritual bath)." Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet, ﷺ , felt shy and asked, "Could this really be, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes, so where else would the resemblance come from? The man's fluid is white and thick, while the woman's is yellow and thin. So, which one comes first or overpowers the other?"

أَنَّ أُمَّهُ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ تَرَى فِي مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ إِذَا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ فِي مَنَامِهَا فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَاسْتَحْيَتْ أَوَيَكُونُ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ؟ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ أَبْيَضُ غَلِيظٌ وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ أَصْفَرُ رَقِيقٌ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا سَبَقَ أَوْ عَلَا يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ

[AI] I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the house of Umm Salamah, and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you think that women see in their dreams what men see?" Umm Salamah said, "By Allah, I revealed the matter to women," and she said, "Indeed, Allah ﷻ is not shy of the truth." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever sees that of you, let her perform Ghusl."

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَكَ الْمَرْأَةَ تَرَى فِي مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ؟ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَضَحْتِ النِّسَاءَ قَالَتْ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ لَا يَسْتَحِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ رَأَىذَلِكَ مِنْكُنَّ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az- Zubayr that Umm Sulayman said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ "Should a woman do ghusl when she experiences the same as a man in her sleep?" The Messenger of Al lah said to her, "Yes, she should do ghusl. "A'isha said to her, "Shame on you! Does a woman see that?" (i.e. a liquid.) The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "May your right hand be full of dust. From where does family resemblance come?"

قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَرْأَةُ تَرَى فِي الْمَنَامِ مِثْلَ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ أَتَغْتَسِلُ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ فَقَالَتْ لَهَا عَائِشَةُ أُفٍّ لَكِ وَهَلْ تَرَى ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَرِبَتْ يَمِينُكِ وَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father from Zaynab bint Abi Salama that Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, "Umm Salama, the wife of Abu Talha al-Ansari, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'Messenger of Allah! Allah is not ashamed of the truth-does a woman have to do ghusl if she has had an erotic dream?' He said, 'Yes, if she sees any liquid.' "

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ جَاءَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ امْرَأَةُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ هَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ غُسْلٍ إِذَا هِيَ احْتَلَمَتْ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ

[AI] From the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , Umm Sulaim, who is the mother of Anas ibn Malik, she said: "O Messenger of Allah, surely Allah is not shy of the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to perform ghusl (ritual bath) if she sees water in her sleep, just like a man does?". The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, she should perform ghusl." Then the Prophet's wife ﷺ came to Umm Sulaim and said, "Shame on you! Do you really experience that?" Umm Sulaim replied. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and said, "Extend your right hand, from where would the resemblance come?"

عَنْ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةَ وَهِيَ أُمُّ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ هَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ غُسْلٍ إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ فِي النَّوْمِ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ أَتَغْتَسِلُ أَمْ لَا؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «تَغْتَسِلُ» فَقَالَتْ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَقُلْتُ أُفٍّ لَكِ وَهَلْ تَرَى ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ؟ قَالَتْ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ « تَرِبَتْ يَمِينُكِ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ؟ »

[AI] Um Salim asked the Prophet ﷺ about a woman who sees in her dream what a man sees. The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "O Um Salim, if that woman sees such a thing, let her perform ghusl (ritual bath)." Um Salama said, "I feel shy about that, O Messenger of Allah. Can this really happen?" He replied, "Yes, the water of a man is thick and white, while the water of a woman is thin and yellow. Whichever of them precedes or is more prominent determines the resemblance."

أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَرَى فِي الْمَنَامِ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَهَا «يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ إِذَا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ» قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ وَأَيُّهُمَا سَبَقَ أَوْ عَلَا كَانَ مِنْهُ الشَّبَهُ»

أَن أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَرَى فِي مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ إذا رأيت فِي مَنَامِهَا فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَاسْتَحْيَتْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَمِمَّ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ إِنَّ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَأَيُّهُمَا عَلا أَوْ سبق كان منه الشبه

[AI] A woman entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the house of Umm Salamah. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think about a woman who sees in her dream what a man sees?" Umm Salamah interjected, saying, "Shame on you! You have exposed women!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah is not shy of the truth." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If any of you sees such a dream, she should perform Ghusl (a ritual bath)."

دَخَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ الْمَرْأَةَ تَرَى فِي مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ تَبًّا لَكِ فَضَحْتِ النِّسَاءَ قَالَتْ إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَسْتَحِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ رَأَى ذَلِكَ مِنْكُنَّ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ»

[AI] Narrated Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ : Umm Salamah, the wife of Abu Talhah, went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah is not ashamed of the truth. What do you think about a woman who experiences what a man experiences in a dream? Does she need to perform ghusl (ritual bath)?" He replied, "Yes." Aisha exclaimed, "May your hands be rubbed with dust! Do you think that a woman experiences that?" The Prophet ﷺ turned to Umm Salamah and said, "May your hands be rubbed with dust! Where would the resemblance come from?"

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا حَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ أُمَّ بِنْتِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ذَهَبَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَرَأَيْتَ الْمَرْأَةَ تَرَى فِي النَّوْمِ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلَ أَتَغْتَسِلُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أُفٍّ لَكِ أَتَرَى الْمَرْأَةُ ذَلِكَ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكِ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ

In case a woman sees that, she must take a bath. Umm Sulaim said: I was bashful on account of that and said: Does it happen? Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Yes (it does happen), otherwise how can (a child) resemble her? Man's discharge (i. e. sperm) is thick and white and the discharge of woman is thin and yellow; so the resemblance comes from the one whose genes prevail or dominate. أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَرَى فِي مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فِي مَنَامِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ وَهَلْ يَكُونُ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ إِنَّ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا عَلَا أَوْ سَبَقَ يَكُونُ مِنْهُ الشَّبَهُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الْعَبَّاسِ

"أن أمَّ سُلَيْم. سَألتُ النَّبِى ﷺ عَنِ المَرأةِ تَرَى فِى مَنَامِهَا مَا يَرَى الرَّجلُ فَقَالَ: إِذَا رَأَت ذَلِكَ فَأَنْزَلَت فَعَلَيْهَا الغُسْل، فَقَالَت أُمُّ سُلَيْم: يَارَسُولَ اللهِ! أيَكُونُ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أبيَض، وَمَاءُ المَرْأة رَقيق أَصْفَر فَأيهمَا سَبَقَ أوْ عَلاَ أَشْبَهْهُ الوَلَدُ".
