At the time of the Fajr prayer the Prophet ﷺ asked Bilal, "Tell me of the best deed you did after embracing Islam, for I heard your footsteps in front of me in Paradise." Bilal replied, "I did not do anything worth mentioning except that whenever I performed ablution during the day or night, I prayed after that ablution as much as was written for me."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِبِلاَلٍ عِنْدَ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ يَا بِلاَلُ حَدِّثْنِي بِأَرْجَى عَمَلٍ عَمِلْتَهُ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ دَفَّ نَعْلَيْكَ بَيْنَ يَدَىَّ فِي الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ مَا عَمِلْتُ عَمَلاً أَرْجَى عِنْدِي أَنِّي لَمْ أَتَطَهَّرْ طُهُورًا فِي سَاعَةِ لَيْلٍ أَوْ نَهَارٍ إِلاَّ صَلَّيْتُ بِذَلِكَ الطُّهُورِ مَا كُتِبَ لِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ دَفَّ نَعْلَيْكَ يَعْنِي تَحْرِيكَ  

Bilal, narrate to me which act at the time of morning prayer you did in Islam for which you hope to receive good reward, for I heard during the night the sound of your steps before me in Paradise. Bilal said: I did not do any act in Islam for which I hope to get any benefit but this that when I perform complete ablution during the night or day I observe prayer with that purification what Allah has ordained for me to pray. [Machine] I said to Abu Usamah, "Shall I inform you about the most hopeful deed that Abu Hayyan narrated from Abu Zur'ah, from Abu Hurairah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Bilal during the Fajr prayer: 'O Bilal, tell me of the most hopeful deed that you have done in Islam, for I heard a rustling of your sandals before me in front of Paradise tonight.' Bilal said, 'The most hopeful deed that I have done is that whenever I have performed ablution in a complete and perfect manner, at any hour of the day or night, I have prayed to my Lord as much as He has decreed for me to pray.'"  

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي أُسَامَةَ أَحَدَّثَكُمْ أَبُو حَيَّانَ عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِبِلَالٍ عِنْدَ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ «يَا بِلَالُ حَدِّثْنِي بِأَرْجَى عَمِلٍ عَمِلْتَهُ عِنْدَكَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ خَشْفَةَ نَعْلَيْكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْجَنَّةِ» فَقَالَ مَا عَمَلٌ عَمِلْتُهُ أَرْجَى عِنْدِي أَنِّي لَمْ أَتَطَهَّرْ طَهُورًا تَامًّا فِي سَاعَةٍ مِنْ لَيْلٍ أَوْ نَهَارٍ إِلَّا صَلَّيْتُ لِرَبِّي مَا قُدِّرَ لِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِبِلَالٍ عِنْدَ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ «حَدِّثْنِي بِأَرْجَى عَمَلٍ عَمِلْتَهُ عِنْدَكَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ خَشْفَ نَعْلَيْكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ فِي الْجَنَّةِ» قَالَ «مَا عَمِلْتُ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ أَرْجَى عِنْدِي أَنِّي لَمْ أَطَّهَرْ طَهُورًا تَامًّا فِي سَاعَةٍ مِنْ لَيْلٍ وَلَا نَهَارٍ إِلَّا صَلَّيْتُ لِرَبِّي مَا كُتِبَ لِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ»  

"حَدِّثْنِى بأَرجَى عَمَل عَمِلتَهُ في الإِسْلَامِ، فَإِنِّى سَمِعْتُ دَفَّ نَعْلَيْكَ بَيْنَ يَدىَّ في الْجَنَّةِ" قَالَهُ لِبِلَالٍ، فَقَال: ما عمِلتُ عَمَلًا أرجى عِندِى مِنْ أَنِّى لمْ أَتطَهَّرْ طُهورًا في ساعةٍ مِنْ لَيْل أَوْ نهار إِلا صلَّيْتُ بِذَلِكَ الطُّهُورِ ما كُتِب لِى".  

"يَا بِلَالُ! حَدِّثْنِى بِأَرْجَى عَمَلٍ عَمِلْتَهُ عِنْدَكَ فِى الإِسْلَام مَنْفَعَةً؛ فَإِنِّى سَمِعْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ دَفَّ نَعْليْكَ بَيْنَ يَدَىَّ فِى الْجَنَّةِ، قَالَ: مَا عَمِلْتُ عَمَلًا أَرْجَى عِنْدِى مِنْ أَنِّى لَمْ أَتَطَهَّرْ طُهُورًا فِى سَاعَةٍ مِنْ لَيْلٍ أَوْ نَهَارٍ إِلا صَلَّيْتُ بِذَلِكَ الطُّهُورِ مَا كُتِبَ لِى أَنْ أُصَلَّىَ".
