"When the Prophet walked, his Companions would walk in front of him, and he would leave his back for the angels."  

ابن ماجة:٢٤٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ نُبَيْحٍ الْعَنَزِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا مَشَى مَشَى أَصْحَابُهُ أَمَامَهُ وَتَرَكُوا ظَهْرَهُ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ

Angels used to walk behind the Prophet ﷺ

ahmad:14236 – Wakīʿ > Sufyān > al-Aswad b. Qays > Nubayḥ > Jābir

[Machine] Narrated by Nu'ayh from Jabir: The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to walk in front of him when they went out, and they would leave his back for the angels to walk behind him.  

أحمد:١٤٢٣٦ – حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ نُبَيْحٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَمْشُونَ أَمَامَهُ إِذَا خَرَجَ وَيَدَعُونَ ظَهْرَهُ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ

[Machine] From Nu'bayh Al-Anazi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, he said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, whenever he left his house, we walked in front of him and left behind him for the angels."  

al-Dhahabi said: Authentic (Sahih).
الحاكم:٧٧٥٢ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ثَنَا قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ نُبَيْحٍ الْعَنَزِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ مَشَيْنَا قُدَّامَهُ وَتَرَكْنَا خَلْفَهُ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ»  

قال الذهبي صحيح

ذِكْرُ مَا كَانَ يُسْتَعْمَلُ عِنْدَ مَشْيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي طُرُقِهِ

ابن حبّان:٦٣١٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ نُبَيْحٍ الْعَنَزِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ
