[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Indeed, among you there will be those who fight for the interpretation of the Quran, just as I fought for its revelation." Abu Bakr asked, "Am I the one, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "No." Umar asked, "Am I the one, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "No, but you are the companion of the sandals." Ali asked, "Was it me, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "No, but you are the one who will repair them."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Among you there are those who fight for his interpretation as I fought for its revelation." Abu Bakr and Umar then stood up and said: "No, but rather he is the mender of the sandals, and Ali is the one who mends his sandals."

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when his sandal broke, so Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed behind to fix it. He walked a little and then said, "There are among you those who fight for the interpretation of the Quran as I fought for its revelation." The people eagerly asked who it was, including Abu Bakr and Umar. Abu Bakr said, "It is me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "No." Umar said, "It is me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "No, but it is the one who is fixing the sandal," referring to Ali. We went to him and gave him the glad tidings, but he did not raise his head, as if he had heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .
