The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold, and he used to wear its stone (Fass) next to his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold too. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] threw it away, and the people threw their rings away too. Then he took a ring of silver and he used to seal letters with it, but he did not wear it.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَ جَعَلَ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَطَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ وَلاَ يَلْبَسُهُ  

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold, and he used to wear its stone (Fass) next to his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] discarded it, and the people discarded their rings. Then he acquired a ring of silver with which he used to seal letters, but he did not wear it.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَ فَصُّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَطَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ وَلاَ يَلْبَسُهُ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had a ring of gold, and he used to place its gem on the inner side of his hand. One day, he accidentally dropped it and the people also dropped their rings. Then, he chose a ring made of silver, and he used to seal with it without wearing it.  

كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ يَدِهِ فَطَرَحَهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ وَلَا يَلْبَسُهُ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had a gold ring that he used to wear, he would put its gemstone inside his palm. One day he threw it away, and his companions threw away their rings as well. Then he took a ring made of silver and he used to use it as a seal but not wear it.  

كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ كَانَ يُدْخِلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ فَطَرَحَهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَطَرَحَ أَصْحَابُهُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ وَلَا يَلْبَسُهُ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a gold ring, and so the people took gold rings. Then one day he stood up and said, "I used to wear this ring, but I have now discarded it." So the people discarded their rings.  

اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَامَ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ ثُمَّ نَبَذَهُ فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had a gold ring, and he used to wear it on the inside of his hand. One day, he threw it away, and the people also threw away their rings. Then he took a silver ring and started wearing it, and he never took it off.  

كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَيَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ يَدِهِ قَالَ فَطَرَحَهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ وَلَا يَلْبَسُهُ  

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold and he used to wear its stone (Fass) next to his palm. Then the people started to wear rings too. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] threw it away and said: "I will never wear it again." Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] took a ring of silver, and wore it on his hand. Then it was on the hand of Abu Bakr, then on the hand of 'Umar, then on the hand of 'Uthman, until it was lost in the well of Aris. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5293)   

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي بَطْنَ كَفِّهِ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ الْخَوَاتِيمَ فَأَلْقَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ «لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا» ثُمَّ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ وَكَانَ فِي يَدِهِ ثُمَّ فِي يَدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ فِي يَدِ عُمَرَ ثُمَّ فِي يَدِ عُثْمَانَ حَتَّى هَلَكَ مِنْهُ فِي بِئْرِ أَرِيسٍ «  

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold, and he used to wear its stone (Fass) next to his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] discarded it, and the people discarded their rings. Then he acquired a ring of silver with which he used to seal letters, but he did not wear it.
