ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ قَوْلِهِ ﷺ «وَأَنَا وَأَنَا»

[Machine] Muaawiya heard the caller saying "Allah is the greatest! Allah is the greatest!" So he said, "Allah is the greatest!" When he heard him say, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah," Muaawiya said, "And I bear witness." Then when he heard him say, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah," Muaawiya said, "And I bear witness." Then Muaawiya said, "This is how I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying."

سَمِعَ الْمُنَادِي يَقُولُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ فَلَمَّا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ فَلَمَّا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ

"I was sitting with Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif when the Mu'adhdhin called the Adhan. He said: 'Allahu akbar; Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest),' and he (also) pronounced the takbir twice. Then he said: 'Ashhadu an la ialaha ill-Allah (I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah),' and he also sent the testimony twice. Then he said: 'Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasul-Allah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah),' and he (also) sent the testimony twice. Then he said: 'This is what Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan told me, narrating from statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'"

[Machine] The translation of the passage is as follows: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to repeat the words of the Mu'adhdhin when he heard him saying, 'Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.' He would say the same words. And when the Mu'adhdhin said, 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,' he would say the same words. And when the Mu'adhdhin said, 'I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,' he would say the same words."

Then he said 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah' (I testify that there is no god but Allah). Mu'awiyah said 'Wa ana ashhadu' (And I testify to that). Abu 'Amir said 'And I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah'. Mu'awiyah said 'Wa ana ashhadu' (And I testify to that). Abu 'Amir said 'And I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah'. Mu'awiyah said, 'This is how I heard your Prophet ﷺ say'."

[Machine] "He heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, and Bilal was calling the adhan. When he said 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar', the Prophet of Allah said, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar'. Then he said, 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah', the Prophet of Allah said, 'Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah'. Then he said, 'Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah', and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the same. Then he remained silent."
