AbuBakr and Umar were standing in the front row on his right and there was a man who had been present at the first takbir in the prayer. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ offered the prayer, then gave the salutation to his right and his left so that we saw the whiteness of his cheeks, then turned away as AbuRimthah (meaning himself) had done. The man who has been present with him at the first takbir in the prayer then got up to pray another prayer, whereupon Umar leaped up and, seizing him by the shoulders, shook him and said: Sit down, for the People of the Book perished for no other reason than that there was no interval between their prayers. The Prophet ﷺ raised his eyes and said: Allah has made you say what is right, son of al-Khattab. Abu Dawud said: Sometimes the name of Abu Umayyah is narrated instead of Abu Rimthah. [Machine] There was an imam who led us in prayer, his name was Abu Rimthah. During our Asr prayer, there was a man with us who had witnessed the first Takbeer (the saying of "Allahu Akbar" to initiate the prayer). After Abu Rimthah finished leading the prayer and left, the man stood up to intercede. Abu Rimthah noticed and said, "I prayed this prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and Abu Bakr and Umar were standing in the front row to his right." The man had also witnessed the first Takbeer and had prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ , then he gave the salutations from the right and left sides until we could see his cheeks turn red, then he straightened himself and faced the people. The man who had witnessed the first Takbeer of the prayer stood up to intercede, and Umar leapt towards him, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him, then he said, "Sit down, for the people of the book will not be destroyed except for neglecting their prayer." The Prophet ﷺ raised his gaze towards him and said, "May Allah guide you, O son of Al-Khattab."
