The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me and what he taught me is this: Observe the five prayers regularly. He said: I told (him): I have many works at these times; so give me a comprehensive advice which, if I follow, should be enough for me. He said: Observe the two afternoon prayers (al-asrayn). But the term al-asrayn (two afternoon prayers) was not used in our language. Hence I said: What is al-asrayn? He said: A prayer before the sunrise and a prayer before the sunset (i.e. the dawn and the afternoon prayers). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 428)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me, among other things, that he said: "Preserve the five daily prayers." I said, "These are hours during which I am occupied, so give me a comprehensive order that I may fulfill it." He said, "Preserve the two prayers of Al-Asr (the afternoon) and Al-Isha (the night)." I asked, "What are Al-Asr and Al-Isha?" He said, "It is the prayer before the rising of the sun and the prayer before its setting." This narration is mentioned by Al-Qattan. The sheikh, may Allah have mercy on him, said as if he intended, and Allah knows best, to preserve them at the start of their times and excused him for the excessive work that led to delaying them from their initial times. So he ordered him to observe these two prayers by performing them at the beginning of their times, with the help of Allah.
