hakim:3455Abū Zakariyyā al-ʿAnbarī > Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Salām > Isḥāq > Wakīʿ > Sufyān > Abū Hāshim al-Rummānī Yaḥyá b. Dīnār al-Wāsiṭī > Abū Mijlaz Lāḥiq b. Ḥumayd al-Sadūsī > Qays b. ʿAbbād

this Āyah was revealed for these six folk on the day of Badr: (1) ʿAlī, (2) Ḥamzah, (3) ʿUbaydah, (4) Shaybah and (5) ʿUtbah, the two sons of Rabīʿah, and (6) Walīd b. ʿUtbah: "These are two adversaries who have disputed over their Lord..." (Ḥajj 22:19) until the end of the statement of Allah, "... We will make him taste of a painful punishment." (Ḥajj 22:25).  

Sulaymān al-Taymī followed Abū Hāshim over his narration from Abū Majliz, from Qays, from ʿAlī, similar to the first.
الحاكم:٣٤٥٥كَمَا حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ أَنْبَأَ وَكِيعٌ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ الرُّمَّانِيِّ يَحْيَى بْنِ دِينَارٍ الْوَاسِطِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ لَاحِقِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ السَّدُوسِيِّ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يُقْسِمُ

لَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ فِي هَؤُلَاءِ الرَّهْطِ السِّتَّةِ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ عَلِيٌّ وَحَمْزَةُ وَعُبَيْدَةُ وَشَيْبَةُ وَعُتْبَةُ ابْنَا رَبِيعَةَ وَالْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ {هَذَانِ خَصْمَانِ اخْتَصَمُوا فِي رَبِّهِمْ} [الحج 19] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى {نُذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ} [الحج 25]۔  

وَقَدْ تَابَعَ سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ أَبَا هَاشِمٍ عَلَى رِوَايَتِهِ عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ مِثْلَ الْأَوَّلِ

The following Holy Verse:-- "These two opponents (believers & disbelievers) dispute with each other about their Lord," (22.19) was revealed concerning six men from Quraish, namely, ʿAli, Hamza, 'Ubaida bin Al-Harith; Shaiba bin Rabiʿa, ʿUtba bin Rabiʿa and Al-Walid bin ʿUtba.  

البخاري:٣٩٦٦حَدَّثَنَا قَبِيصَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عُبَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ؓ قَالَ

نَزَلَتْ {هَذَانِ خَصْمَانِ اخْتَصَمُوا فِي رَبِّهِمْ} فِي سِتَّةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ عَلِيٍّ وَحَمْزَةَ وَعُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ وَشَيْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ وَعُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ وَالْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ

I heard Abu Dhar swearing that the following Holy verse:-- "These two opponents (believers and disbelievers) disputing with each other about their Lord," (22.19) was revealed concerning those men who fought on the day of Badr, namely, Hamza, ʿAli, Ubaida bin Al-Harith, ʿUtba and Shaiba----the two sons of Rabiʿa-- and Al-Walid bin ʿUtba.

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يُقْسِمُ قَسَمًا إِنَّ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ {هَذَانِ خَصْمَانِ اخْتَصَمُوا فِي رَبِّهِمْ } نَزَلَتْ فِي الَّذِينَ بَرَزُوا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ حَمْزَةَ وَعَلِيٍّ وَعُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ وَعُتْبَةَ وَشَيْبَةَ ابْنَىْ رَبِيعَةَ وَالْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ

ʿAli said, "I will be the first to kneel before the Beneficent on the Day of Resurrection because of the dispute." Qais said; This Verse: 'These two opponents (believers and disbelievers dispute with each other about their Lord,' (22.19) was revealed in connection with those who came out for the Battle of Badr, i.e. ʿAli, Hamza, 'Ubaida, Shaiba bin Rabiʿa, ʿUtba bin Rabiʿa and Al-Walid bin ʿUtba.

“I heard Abu Dharr swearing that these verses were revealed concerning those six people on the Day of Badr: ‘These two opponents (believers and disbelievers) dispute with each other about their Lord.”[22:19] to the words “Verily, Allah does what he wills.’[22:14] (that is) Hamzah bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib, ‘Ali bin Abi Talib, ‘Ubaidah bin Al-Harith, ‘Utbah bin Rabi’ah, Shaibah bin Rabi’ah and Al-Walid bin ‘Utbah. They argued with one another on the Day of Badr.”  

ابن ماجة:٢٨٣٥حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ وَحَفْصُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ أَنْبَأَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ الرُّمَّانِيِّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ يَحْيَى بْنُ الأَسْوَدِ عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عُبَادٍ قَالَ

[Machine] I heard Abu Dharr saying, "I swear by Allah, this verse was revealed: 'These two opponents disputed concerning their Lord' concerning these six (men): Hamzah, Ubaydah, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Utbah, Shaybah ibn Rabiah, and Walid ibn Utbah. And they were displaying their bravery on the day of Badr."  

الطبراني:٢٩٥٤حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ الرُّمَّانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ قَالَ
