The dust of our ground with the saliva of any one of us would serve as a means whereby our illness would be cured with the sanction of Allah. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Abu Shaiba and Zubair with a slight variation of wording. (Using translation from Muslim 2194)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا اشْتَكَى الْإِنْسَانُ الشَّيْءَ مِنْهُ أَوْ كَانَتْ بِهِ قَرْحَةٌ أَوْ جُرِحَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِإِصْبَعِهِ هَكَذَا وَوَضَعَ سَبَّابَتَهُ بِالْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَهَا «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا بِرِيقَةِ بَعْضِنَا يُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا»

Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) commanded me that I should make use of incantation for curing the influence of an evil eye. (Using translation from Muslim 2195c)

«أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ أَسْتَرْقِيَ مِنَ الْعَيْنِ»

[Machine] "Narrated by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that Gabriel ﷺ came to him while he was feeling unwell and said, 'In the name of Allah, I seek healing for you from everything that harms you, from every envious person and envy, from every distress, and the name of Allah will cure you.'"

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ أَتَاهُ وَهُوَ يُوعَكُ فَقَالَ «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ حَسَدٍ وَحَاسِدٍ وَكُلِّ غَمٍّ وَاسْمُ اللَّهِ يَشْفِيكَ»

[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ , when a Bedouin came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a brother who is suffering from a pain." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What kind of pain does he have?" The Bedouin replied, "He has a swelling." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring him to me." The Bedouin brought his brother, and the Prophet ﷺ placed his hand on the affected area and recited the opening chapter of the Quran and four verses from the end of Surah Al-Baqarah: "Your God is one God, there is no god but Him, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate" (Quran 2:163) and the verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi) and a verse from Surah Al-Imran: "Allah bears witness that there is no god but Him" (Quran 3:18), and a verse from Surah Al-A'raf: "Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth" (Quran 7:54), and the last verses of Surah Al-Mu'minun: "So exalted is Allah, the true King" (Quran 23:116), and a verse from Surah Al-Jinn: "And that, our Lord, is exalted in might" (Quran 72:3), and ten verses from the beginning of Surah As-Saffat and three verses from the end of Surah Al-Hashr, and "Say: He is Allah, the One" (Quran 112:1) and the two protective Surahs (Surah Al-Ikhlas and Surah Al-Falaq). The man stood up as if he had never experienced any pain before.

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي أَخًا وَبِهِ وَجَعٌ قَالَ «وَمَا وَجَعُهُ؟» قَالَ بِهِ لَمَمٌ قَالَ «فَأْتِنِي بِهِ» فَأَتَاهُ بِهِ فَوَضَعَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَعَوَّذَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَأَرْبَعِ آيَاتٍ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ وَهَاتَيْنِ الْآيَتَيْنِ {وَإِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ} [البقرة 163] وَآيَةِ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَآيَةٍ مِنْ آلِ عِمْرَانَ {شَهِدَ اللَّهُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ} [آل عمران 18] وَآيَةٍ مِنَ الْأَعْرَافِ {إِنَّ رَبُّكُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ} وَآخَرِ سُورَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ {فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ} [المؤمنون 116] وَآيَةٍ مِنْ سُورَةِ الْجِنِّ {وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَى جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا} [الجن 3] وَعَشْرِ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الصَّافَّاتِ وَثَلَاثِ آيَاتٍ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الْحَشْرِ وَقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ « فَقَامَ الرَّجُلُ كَأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَشْكُ شَيْئًا قَطُّ»

I passed by a river. I entered it and took a bath in it. When I came out, I had fever. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed about it. He said: Ask AbuThabit to seek refuge in Allah from that I asked: O my Lord, will the spell be useful? He replied: No, the spell is to be used except for the evil eye or a snake bite or a scorpion sting. Abu Dawud said: Humah means the biting of snakes and sting of the poisonous insects. سَمِعْتُ سَهْلَ بْنَ حُنَيْفٍ يَقُولُ مَرَرْنَا بِسَيْلٍ فَدَخَلْتُ فَاغْتَسَلْتُ فِيهِ فَخَرَجْتُ مَحْمُومًا فَنُمِيَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مُرُوا أَبَا ثَابِتٍ يَتَعَوَّذَ» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا سَيِّدِي وَالرُّقَى صَالِحَةٌ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا رُقَى إِلَّا فِي نَفْسٍ أَوْ حُمَةٍ أَوْ لَدْغَةٍ»

[Machine] "There is no ruqyah except for an evil eye, fever, or blood that refuses to clot."

«لَا رُقْيَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ عَيْنٍ أَوْ حُمَّى أَوْ دَمٍ لَا يَرْقَأُ»

[Machine] I sat with Yazid al-Raqashi and heard him say that Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say the following supplication when he was afflicted with rheumatism or any of his family or companions: "O Allah, bless me with my eyesight and make it the inheritance from me. Show me my revenge against my enemy and support me against those who have wronged me." It contains two weak narrators.

جَلَسْتُ إِلَى يَزِيدَ الرَّقَاشِيِّ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَصَابَهُ رَمَدٌ أَوْ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ دَعَا بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ «اللَّهُمَّ مَتِّعْنِي بِبَصَرِي وَاجْعَلْهُ الْوَارِثَ مِنِّي وَأَرِنِي فِي الْعَدُوِّ ثَأْرِي وَانْصُرْنِي عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنِي» فيه ضعيفان

[Machine] When sneezing, the person says "Alhamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah) for every situation, as they have not experienced toothache or earache. The golden rule is silent about summarizing it.

عِنْدَ عَطْسَةٍ يَسْمَعُهَا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ لَمْ يَجِدْ وَجَعَ الضِّرْسِ وَلَا وَجَعَ الْأُذُنِ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

"For fever, and all pains, the Prophet ﷺ would teach them to say: Bismillahil-Kabir; a'udhu billahil-'Azimi min sharri kulli 'irqin na'arin, wa min sharri harrin-nar. (In the name of Allah the Great, I seek refuge with Allah the Magnificent from the evil of every gushing vein, and from the evil of the heat of the Fire)" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2075)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ مِنَ الْأَوْجَاعِ وَمِنَ الْحُمَّى أَنْ يَقُولَ «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الْكَبِيرِ نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ مِنْ شَرِّ عِرْقِ نَعَّارٍ وَمَنْ شَرِّ حَرِّ النَّارِ»

[Machine] It is said that healing used to descend from an ant, so the Prophet ﷺ said, "Teach it to Hafsah."

يُقَالُ لَهَا الشِّفَاءُ كَانَتْ تَرْقِي مِنَ النَّمْلَةِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «عَلِّمِيهَا حَفْصَةَ»

[Machine] The translation of the mentioned phrase is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw in the house of Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , a young girl with a distorted face, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'She has the evil eye, so protect her.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَأَى فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ جَارِيَةً بِوَجْهِهَا سَفْعَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «بِهَا نَظْرَةٌ فَاسْتَرْقُوا لَهَا»

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed you have prohibited ruqyah, but I perform it with the snake." He said, "Tell me the details." So, he narrated the incident to him, and he said, "There is no harm in this, these are covenants." He said, "And my close relative from the Ansar came, and he used to perform ruqyah with scorpions." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed you have prohibited ruqyah, but I perform it with scorpions." He said, "Whoever is able to benefit his brother, then let him do so."

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى وَأَنَا أَرْقِي مِنَ الْحَيَّةِ قَالَ «قُصَّهَا عَلَيَّ» فَقَصَّهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «لَا بَأْسَ بِهَذِهِ هَذِهِ مَوَاثِيقُ» قَالَ وَجَاءَ خَالِي مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَكَانَ يَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى وَأَنَا أَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ قَالَ «مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The nations were presented to me in a vision at the appointed time, and I saw all of them, and I was amazed by their large number and their dignity. They filled the plains and the mountains. It was said to me, 'O Muhammad, are you pleased?' I said, 'Yes, my Lord.' He said, 'For you, there are seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without being held accountable. They are the ones who do not practice Aatrar (cauterization) or seek Ruqyah (healing through charms), and they rely upon their Lord.' Ukkashah bin Mihsan stood up and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He may make me one of them.' So he supplicated for him. Then another man stood up and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He may make me one of them.' He said, 'Ukkashah has preceded you in this.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ الْأُمَمُ بِالْمَوْسِمِ فَرَأَيْتُ جَمِيعَهُمْ فَأَعْجَبَنِي كَثْرَتُهُمْ وَهَيْبَتُهُمْ قَدْ مَلَأُوا السَّهْلَ وَالْجَبَلَ فَقِيلَ أَيْ مُحَمَّدُ رَضِيتَ؟ فَأَقُولُ نَعَمْ أَيْ رَبِّ فَقَالَ إِنَّ لَكَ مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ وَلَا يَكْتَوُونَ وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ فَقَامَ عُكَّاشَةُ بْنُ مِحْصَنٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَدَعَا لَهُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ آخِرُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ «سَبَقَكَ إِلَيْهَا عُكَّاشَةُ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever steals or cheats cannot truly trust in Allah."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَمْ يَتَوَكَّلْ مَنِ اسْتَرْقَى أَوِ اكْتَوَى»

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Whoever says, when evening comes, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' three times, nothing will harm him throughout that night, even if he is bitten by a snake." He said: "And whenever one of his family members was stung by a scorpion, he would say the same words."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُمْسِي أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ لَمْ تَضُرَّهُ حَيَّةُ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةِ قَالَ وَكَانَ إِذَا لُدِغَ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ إِنْسَانٌ قَالَ مَا قَالَ الْكَلِمَاتِ

[Machine] "He was bitten by a scorpion in the presence of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , so the Prophet (pbuh) separated him from the scorpion and wiped his hand."

«أَنَّهُ لَدَغَتْهُ عَقْرَبٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَرَقَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَسَحَ بِيَدِهِ»

The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone visits a sick whose time (of death) has not come, and says with him seven times: I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the mighty Throne, to cure you, Allah will cure him from that disease. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3106)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا لَمْ يَحْضُرْ أَجَلُهُ فَقَالَ عِنْدَهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ وَيُعَافِيَكَ إِلَّا عَافَاهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرَضِ

[Machine] "Three individuals came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said: 'We have a companion who is ill, so could you prescribe medication for him?' The Prophet remained silent for a while, then he repeated their request with the words: 'Prescribe him (the medication) if you wish, and if you wish, also perform Rukyah (supplication and prayer for healing).'

أَنَّ ثَلَاثَةَ نَفَرٍ أَتَوُا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالُوا إِنَّ صَاحِبًا لَنَا مَرِيضٌ فَوُصِفَ لَنَا الْكَيُّ أَفَنَكْوِيهِ؟ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ عَادَ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ «اكْوُوهُ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ فَارْضِفُوهُ»

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade cauterization. I had myself cauterized and I have not prospered or succeeded.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3490)

«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْكَيِّ فَاكْتَوَيْنَا فَمَا أَفْلَحْنَا وَلَا أَنْجَحْنَا»

[Machine] "Ubayy Bin Ka'b was hit in his eye with a stone, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a doctor to treat him, and he healed him."

«رُمِيَ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ فِي أَكْحَلِهِ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ طَبِيبًا فَكَوَاهُ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sharpened the iron for Sa'd ibn Zuraarah from a thorn" according to the conditions of Bukhari and Muslim.

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَوَى أَسْعَدَ بْنَ زُرَارَةَ مِنَ الشَّوْكَةِ» على شرط البخاري ومسلم

[Machine] Saad bin Muadh was hit in his eye and the Prophet ﷺ resolved it with his hand using a pair of tweezers. He said, then it was thrown again and the Prophet ﷺ resolved it a second time.

رُمِيَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ فِي أَكْحَلِهِ فَحَسَمَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ بِمِشْقَصٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ وَرِمَتْ فَحَسَمَهُ الثَّانِيَةَ

[Machine] "I am Abu Talhah and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is among us, therefore, I cannot be prevented from it."

«كَوَانِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا فَمَا نُهِيتُ عَنْهُ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever hangs an amulet, Allah will not fulfill their need, and whoever hangs a charm, Allah will not complete it for them."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ عَلَّقَ وَدَعَةً فَلَا وَدَعَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وَمَنْ عَلَّقَ تَمِيمَةً فَلَا تَمَّمَ اللَّهُ لَهُ»

[Machine] I stole from Al-Humrah and he extended his hand, so I cut it off. Then he said, "Indeed, the family of Abdullah are self-sufficient when it comes to partnership." She said, "Then he said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us, 'Indeed, incantations, charms, and omens are forms of polytheism.' So I asked, what are omens? He said, 'Omens are what incites men.'"

اسْتَرْقَيْتُ مِنَ الْحُمْرَةِ فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ فَقَطَعَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ آلَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ لَأَغْنِيَاءُ عَنِ الشِّرْكِ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَنَا «إِنَّ الرُّقَى وَالتَّمَائِمَ وَالتَّوْلِيَةَ شِرْكٌ» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ مَا التَّوْلِيَةُ؟ قَالَ «التَّوْلِيَةُ هُوَ الَّذِي يُهَيِّجُ الرِّجَالَ»

[Machine] She said, "Amulets are not effective if they are hung before the occurrence of calamity, and they are also not effective if they are hung afterwards, so they are not considered talismans."

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ «التَّمَائِمُ مَا عُلِّقَ قَبْلَ نُزُولِ الْبَلَاءِ وَمَا عُلِّقَ بَعْدَهُ فَلَيْسَ بِتَمِيمَةٍ»

[Machine] "They mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ that it is from the work of Satan."

«ذَكَرُوا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ»
