I used to write everything which I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I intended (by it) to memorise it. The Quraysh prohibited me saying: Do you write everything that you hear from him while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is a human being: he speaks in anger and pleasure? So I stopped writing, and mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He signalled with his finger to him mouth and said: Write, by Him in Whose hand my soul lies, only right comes out from it. [Machine] I used to write everything I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I wanted to memorize it, but the Quraysh forbade me and said, "You write everything you hear from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is a human who speaks in a state of satisfaction and anger?" So I refrained and mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Write, by the One in whose hand is my soul, nothing comes out of him except the truth." And he pointed with his hand towards those who narrated this Hadith, as they were used as evidence by others after them, excluding Al-Walid. And I think it is Al-Walid ibn Abi Al-Walid Al-Shami, for he is Al-Walid ibn Abdullah, and it is known that his father was literate. If that is the case, then Muslim used him as evidence, and the narration from Amir al-Mu'minin Umar ibn al-Khattab has been authenticated, in which he said, "Limit the knowledge with the book." If Al-Walid is the son of Abu al-Walid al-Shami, then he is a condition set by Muslim.
