Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, 'This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine. So he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?" He replied, "Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ يَمْشِي فَاشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَطَشُ فَنَزَلَ بِئْرًا فَشَرِبَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِكَلْبٍ يَلْهَثُ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ بَلَغَ هَذَا مِثْلُ الَّذِي بَلَغَ بِي فَمَلأَ خُفَّهُ ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَهُ بِفِيهِ ثُمَّ رَقِيَ فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ فَشَكَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّ لَنَا فِي الْبَهَائِمِ أَجْرًا قَالَ فِي كُلِّ كَبِدٍ رَطْبَةٍ أَجْرٌ  

The Prophet ﷺ said, "A man felt very thirsty while he was on the way, there he came across a well. He went down the well, quenched his thirst, and came out. Meanwhile, he saw a dog panting and licking mud because of excessive thirst. He said to himself: This dog is suffering from thirst as I did." So, he went down the well again and filled his shoe with water, and watered it. Allah appreciated him for that deed and forgave him."

The people said, "O Messenger of Allah, is there a reward for us in serving the animals?" He replied: "Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate (living being)."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ بِطَرِيقٍ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَطَشُ فَوَجَدَ بِئْرًا فَنَزَلَ فِيهَا فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ يَلْهَثُ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ لَقَدْ بَلَغَ هَذَا الْكَلْبَ مِنَ الْعَطَشِ مِثْلُ الَّذِي كَانَ بَلَغَ مِنِّي فَنَزَلَ الْبِئْرَ فَمَلأَ خُفَّهُ مَاءً فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ فَشَكَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّ لَنَا فِي الْبَهَائِمِ لأَجْرًا فَقَالَ فِي كُلِّ ذَاتِ كَبِدٍ رَطْبَةٍ أَجْرٌ  

A person suffered from intense thirst while on a journey, when he found a well. He climbed down into it and drank (water) and then came out and saw a dog lolling its tongue on account of thirst and eating the moistened earth. The person said: This dog has suffered from thirst as I had suffered from it. He climbed down into the well, filled his shoe with water, then caught it in his mouth until he climbed up and made the dog drink it. So Allah appreciated this act of his and pardoned him. Then (the Companions around him) said: Messenger of Allah, is there for us a reward even for (serving) such animals? He said: Yes, there is a reward for service to every living animal.

Abu Hurairah reported the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ as saying “ While a man was going on his way, he felt himself thirsty severely. He found a well and e went down in it. He drank water and came out. Suddenly he saw a dog panting and eating soil due to thirst. The man said (to himself) “This dog must have reached the same condition due to thirst as I had reached. So he went down into the well, filled his sock with water, held it with his mouth and came up. He supplied water to the dog. Allaah appreciated this and forgave him.” They asked “Apostle of Allaah ﷺ, Is there any reward for us for these beasts? He replied, For every cool liver there is a reward.”

Yahya related to me from Malik from Sumayy, the mawla of Abu Bakr from Abu Salih as-Samman from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man was walking on a road when he became very thirsty. He found a well and went into it and drank and came out. There was a dog panting and eating earth out of thirst. The man said, 'This dog has become as thirsty as I was.' He went down into the well and filled his shoe and then held it in his mouth until he climbed out and gave the dog water to drink. Allah thanked him for it and forgave him." They said, "Messenger of Allah, do we have a reward for taking care of beasts?" He said, "There is a reward for every one with a moist liver."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ يَمْشِي بِطَرِيقٍ إِذِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَطَشُ فَوَجَدَ بِئْرًا فَنَزَلَ فِيهَا فَشَرِبَ وَخَرَجَ فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ يَلْهَثُ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ لَقَدْ بَلَغَ هَذَا الْكَلْبَ مِنَ الْعَطَشِ مِثْلُ الَّذِي بَلَغَ مِنِّي فَنَزَلَ الْبِئْرَ فَمَلأَ خُفَّهُ ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَهُ بِفِيهِ حَتَّى رَقِيَ فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ فَشَكَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّ لَنَا فِي الْبَهَائِمِ لأَجْرًا فَقَالَ فِي كُلِّ ذَاتِ كَبِدٍ رَطْبَةٍ أَجْرٌ  

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "While a man was walking on a road. he became very thirsty. Then he came across a well, got down into it, drank (of its water) and then came out. Meanwhile he saw a dog panting and licking mud because of excessive thirst. The man said to himself "This dog is suffering from the same state of thirst as I did." So he went down the well (again) and filled his shoe (with water) and held it in his mouth and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for that deed and forgave him." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?" He said, "(Yes) There is a reward for serving any animate (living being) ." قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ يَمْشِي وَهُوَ بِطَرِيقٍ إِذِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَطَشُ فَوَجَدَ بِئْرًا فَنَزَلَ فِيهَا فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ يَلْهَثُ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ بَلَغَ هَذَا الْكَلْبَ مِنَ الْعَطَشِ مِثْلُ الَّذِي بَلَغَنِي فَنَزَلَ الْبِئْرَ فَمَلَأَ خُفَّهُ مَاءً ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَهُ بِفِيهِ حَتَّى رَقِيَ بِهِ فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ فَشَكَرَ اللهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَإِنَّ لَنَا فِي الْبَهَائِمِ لَأَجْرًا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي كُلِّ ذَاتِ كَبِدٍ رَطْبَةٍ أَجْرٌ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: While a man was on a journey, he became thirsty and came across a well. He went down into it, drank, and then came out. Suddenly, he saw a dog eating the dirt out of thirst. The man went back down into the well, filled his shoe with water, and held it in his mouth. He then gave the water to the dog. Allah thanked him for his action and forgave his sins. The people said, "O Messenger of Allah, do we get reward for our kindness towards animals?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In every living being, there is a reward for showing kindness."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ فِي طَرِيقٍ أَصَابَهُ عَطَشٌ فَجَاءَ بِئْرًا فَنَزَلَ فِيهَا فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ فَنَزَلَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى الْبِئْرِ فَمَلَأَ خُفَّهُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَ الْخُفَّ بِفِيهِ فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ فَشَكَرَ اللهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَإِنَّ لَنَا فِي الْبَهَائِمِ لَأَجْرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي كُلِّ ذَاتِ كَبِدٍ رَطْبَةٍ أَجْرٌ  

"بَينمَا رَجُلٌ يَمْشِي فَاشْتَدَّ علَيهِ العَطَشُ فَنَزَلَ بئرًا فَشَرب مِنهَا وَخَرَجَ، فَإِذَا هُوَ بكَلْب يَلهثُ: يَأكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ العَطَشِ فَقَال: لَقَدْ بَلَغَ بهَذَا الَّذِي بَلغَ بِى، فَمَلأَ خُفَّهُ، ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَهُ بفِيهِ، ثُمَّ رَقِى فَسَقَى الكلبَ فَشَكَرَ اللهُ لَهُ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ (قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: وَإنَّ لَنَا في البَهَائِمِ أجْرًا؟ قَال: في كُلِّ كَبِدٍ رَطبَةٍ أجْرٌ) " .
