A funeral procession passed in front of the Prophet ﷺ and the people praised the deceased. The Prophet ﷺ said, "It has been affirmed (Paradise)." Then another funeral procession passed by and the people talked badly of the deceased. The Prophet ﷺ said, "It has been affirmed (Hell)." Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! You said it has been affirmed for both?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "The testimony of the people (is accepted), (for) the believer are Allah's witnesses on the earth."

مُرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِجَنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مُرَّ بِأُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا أَوْ قَالَ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْتَ لِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ وَلِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ قَالَ شَهَادَةُ الْقَوْمِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الأَرْضِ

"A funeral passed by and the deceased was praised." The Prophet said: "It is granted." Another funeral passed by and the deceased was criticized. The Prophet said: "It is granted." 'Umar said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you. One funeral passed by and the deceased was praised, and you said, 'It is granted?"' He said: "Whoever is praised will be granted Paradise, and whoever is criticized will be granted Hell, You are the witnesses of Allah on Earth."

النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ وَمُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةِ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ وَمُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَمَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الأَرْضِ

“A funeral (procession) passed by the Prophet ﷺ and they praised (the deceased) and spoke well of him. He said: ‘(Paradise is) guaranteed for him.’ Then another funeral passed by and they spoke badly of him, and he (the Prophet ﷺ) said: ‘(Hell is) guaranteed for him.’ It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, you said that (Paradise was) guaranteed for this one and that (Hell was) guaranteed for the other one.’ He said: ‘It is the testimony of the people, and the believers are the witnesses of Allah on earth.’”

“A funeral (procession) passed by the Prophet ﷺ and they praised (the deceased) and spoke well of him. مُرَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَى الْقَوْمُ خَيْرًا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالُوا قُلْتَ لِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ وَلِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ ؟ قَالَ شَهَادَةُ الْقَوْمِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , passed by a funeral, so they praised it. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "It is now obligatory." Then he passed by another funeral, and they spoke ill of it. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "It is now obligatory." Then he said, "You are the witnesses of Allah on Earth."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّتْ عَلَيْهِ جَنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a funeral and they praised it favorably, so he said, "It is binding, it is binding." And he passed by another funeral and they praised it negatively, so he said, "It is binding, it is binding." Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, your first statement 'it is binding' and your second statement 'it is binding'? "The Prophet said, "As for the first, when they praised it favorably, I said that Paradise is binding for him. As for the second, when they praised it negatively, I said that Hellfire is binding for him. And you are witnesses of Allah on His earth."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّتْ عَلَيْهِ جَنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ وَجَبَتْ وَمَرَّتْ عَلَيْهِ جَنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَوْلُكَ الْأَوَّلُ وَجَبَتْ وَقَوْلُكَ الْآخَرُ وَجَبَتْ؟ قَالَ أَمَّا الْأَوَّلُ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقُلْتُ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقُلْتُ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ وَأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي أَرْضِهِ

[Machine] "They passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during a funeral procession and spoke ill of it, so he said ﷺ, 'It is deserved.' They passed by another funeral procession and spoke well of it, so he said ﷺ, 'It is deserved.' Umar said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is deserved?' He said, 'If they pass by this one and speak ill of it, then the Fire is deserved. And if they pass by this one and speak well of it, then Paradise is deserved. And you are the witnesses of Allah on earth.'"

مَرُّوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» وَمَرُّوا بِأُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا وَجَبَتْ؟ قَالَ «مَرُّوا بِتِلْكَ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَوَجَبَتِ النَّارُ وَمَرُّوا بِهَذِهِ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَوَجَبَتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ»

نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» وَمُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي مُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ وَمُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ «مَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَمَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ»

[Machine] I heard Anas ibn Malik say: The Prophet ﷺ passed by a funeral procession, and they spoke well of it, so he said, "It is deserved." Then he passed by another funeral procession, and they spoke ill of it, so he said, "It is deserved." Umar ibn Al-Khattab asked, "What is deserved, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "For the first one, you spoke well of him, so Paradise is deserved for him. And for the second one, you spoke ill of him, so Hellfire is deserved for him. And you are the witnesses of Allah on earth."

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ مَرُّوا بِجِنَازَةٍ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مُرَّ بِأُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ مَا وَجَبَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ هَذَا أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا فَوَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَهَذَا أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا فَوَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ وَأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ

وَجَبَتْ وَجَبَتْ وَجَبَتْ وَمُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرٌّ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَبَتْ وَجَبَتْ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ عُمَر فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي مُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرٌ فَقُلْتَ وَجَبَتْ وَمُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرٌّ فَقُلْتُ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَمَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ لأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الأَرْضِ

عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتْ بِهِ جِنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ وَمَرَّتْ جِنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالَ عُمَر يَا رَسولَ اللهِ قُلْتَ لِلأُولَى وَجَبَتْ وَقُلْتَ لِلأُخْرَى وَجَبَتْ قَالَ أَمَّا الأُولَى وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَأَمَّا الأُخْرَى وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الأَرْضِ
