bukhari:1211Ādam > Shuʿbah > al-Azraq b. Qays

We were at Al-Ahwaz fighting the Al-Haruriya (tribe). While I was at the bank of a river a man was praying and the reins of his animal were in his hands and the animal was struggling and he was following the animal. (Shuʿba, a sub-narrator, said that man was Abu Barza Al-Aslami). A man from the Khawarij said, "O Allah! Be harsh to this sheik." And when the sheik (Abu Barza) finished his prayer, he said, "I heard your remark. No doubt, I participated with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in six or seven or eight holy battles and saw his leniency, and no doubt, I would rather retain my animal than let it return to its stable, as it would cause me much trouble. "

[Machine] Abu Barzah was in Ahwaz, on the bank of a river, and he had a rein in his hand. He started to pray and the animal started to jerk. He kept delaying and a man from the Khawarij said, "O Allah! Humiliate this sheikh, how does he pray?" Abu Barzah said, "After I finished praying, I heard what you said. I fought in six or seven or eight expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and witnessed his orders and facilitation. Going back with my animal is easier for me than leaving it so that it would return to its familiar place, which would be difficult for me. Abu Barzah then performed the afternoon prayer of two units.

[Machine] "I saw an old man in Ahwaz praying Asr (afternoon prayer) with the reins of his beast in his hand and it kept lagging behind, so he was pulling it along with him. There was a man sitting from the Khawarij who was insulting him. When he finished his prayer, he said, 'I have heard your conversation. I have participated in six or seven battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and witnessed his affairs and facilitation. So I bring my beast back with me, as it is more beloved to me than leaving it behind and coming back to fetch it, which would be difficult for me.' The man asked, 'How many units of prayer did he perform?' The old man replied, 'Two units.' The man said, 'And he is Abu Burzah.'"
