[Machine] When the messenger of Allah ﷺ made a peace treaty with the polytheists of Quraysh, he wrote a document between them stating, "This is what Muhammad, the messenger of Allah ﷺ, has agreed upon." They said, "If we had known that you were the messenger of Allah, we would not have fought against you." He then told Ali to erase those words, but Ali refused. So, the messenger of Allah ﷺ erased them himself with his hand and wrote: "This is what Muhammad ibn Abdullah has agreed upon." They also stipulated that three things be fulfilled and that they would not enter Mecca with weapons except with sheathed swords. Shu'bah said, "I asked Abu Ishaq, what does 'julubbanu al-silah' mean?" He said, "It means that the sword is in its scabbard or what is contained within it." They narrated it in the authentic hadith from the narration of Shu'bah.

When Messenger of Allah ﷺ concluded a peace treaty with the people of Hudaibiya, ʿAli bin Abu Talib wrote the document and he mentioned in it, "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." The pagans said, "Don't write: 'Muhammad, Messenger of Allah ﷺ', for if you were an apostle we would not fight with you." Allah's Apostle asked ʿAli to rub it out, but ʿAli said, "I will not be the person to rub it out." Messenger of Allah ﷺ rubbed it out and made peace with them on the condition that the Prophet ﷺ and his companions would enter Mecca and stay there for three days, and that they would enter with their weapons in cases.

'Ali b. Abu Talib penned the treaty between the Prophet ﷺ and the polytheists on the Day of Hudaibiya. He wrote: This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has settled. They (the polytheists) said: Do not write words" the Messenger of Allah". If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah, we would not fight against you. The Prophet ﷺ said to 'Ali: Strike out these words. He (Ali) said: I am not going to strike them out. So the Prophet ﷺ struck them out with his own hand. The narrator said that the conditions upon which the two sides had agreed included that the Muslims would enter Mecca (next year) and would stay there for three days, and that they would not enter bearing arms except in their sheaths or bolsters.
