[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has passed away, and she still has one month of fasting left. Should I fast on her behalf?" He ﷺ replied, "If your mother had a debt, would you repay it on her behalf?" The man answered, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Allah's debt is more deserving to be repaid." Sulaiman (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "The judgment and the ruling are correct." We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a Muslim narrated this incident. Salamah and Nahnu (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "We have heard Mujahid mentioning this from Ibn Abbas."  

البيهقي:٨٢٢٤ – كَمَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو نَصْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ شَبِيبٍ الْفَامِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ أنبأ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عُمَرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ قَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ حِينَ كَانَ مُسْلِمٌ يُحَدِّثُ بِهَذَا فَقَالَا سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ هَذَا  

رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ حُسَيْنٍ الْجُعْفِيِّ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ

A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, my mother has died (in a state) that she had to observe fasts of a month (of Ramadan). Should I complete (them) on her behalf? thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Would you not pay the debt if your mother had died (without paying it)? He said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The debt of Allah deserves more that it should he paid.  

مسلم:١١٤٨b – وَحَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْوَكِيعِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ جَمِيعًا وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالاَ سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

nasai-kubra:2925 – al-Qāsim b. Zakariyyā
