ʿUmar bought a silk cloak from the market, took it to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Take it and adorn yourself with it during the ʿId and when the delegations visit you." Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "This dress is for those who have no share (in the Hereafter)." After a long period Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to ʿUmar a cloak of silk brocade. ʿUmar came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the cloak and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! You said that this dress was for those who had no share (in the Hereafter); yet you have sent me this cloak." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Sell it and fulfill your needs by it."  

أَخَذَ عُمَرُ جُبَّةً مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ فَأَخَذَهَا فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ تَجَمَّلْ بِهَا لِلْعِيدِ وَالْوُفُودِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ فَلَبِثَ عُمَرُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَلْبَثَ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِجُبَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ فَأَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ قُلْتَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ وَأَرْسَلْتَ إِلَىَّ بِهَذِهِ الْجُبَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَبِيعُهَا أَوْ تُصِيبُ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ  

ʿUmar saw a silken cloak being sold in the market and he brought it to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Buy this cloak and adorn yourself with it on the ʿId festivals and on meeting the delegations." Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "This is the dress for the one who will have no share in the Hereafter (or, this is worn by one who will have no share in the Hereafter)." After sometime had passed, Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a silken cloak to ʿUmar. ʿUmar took it and brought it to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! You have said that this is the dress of that who will have no share in the Hereafter (or, this is worn by one who will have no share in the Hereafter), yet you have sent me this!" The Prophet ﷺ said," I have sent it) so that you may sell it or fulfill with it some of your needs."  

وَجَدَ عُمَرُ حُلَّةَ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ فَأَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ الْحُلَّةَ فَتَجَمَّلْ بِهَا لِلْعِيدِ وَلِلْوُفُودِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ أَوْ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ فَلَبِثَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِجُبَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ حَتَّى أَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْتَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ أَوْ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لا خَلاَقَ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَىَّ بِهَذِهِ فَقَالَ تَبِيعُهَا أَوْ تُصِيبُ بِهَا بَعْضَ حَاجَتِكَ  

'Umar b. at-Khattab found a silk garment being sold in the market; he purchased it and brought it to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, get it and adorn yourself (by wearing it) on the 'Id (days) and for the delegation. Thereupon, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: That is the dress of one who has no share (in the Hereafter). 'Umar stayed there so long as Allah wished. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him a silk cloak. 'Umar came back with that to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah. you said that it is the dress of one who has no share in the Hereafter, but then you sent it to me. Thereupon, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You sell it and meet your need (with its proceeds).  

وَجَدَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ حُلَّةً مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ بِالسُّوقِ فَأَخَذَهَا فَأَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ فَتَجَمَّلْ بِهَا لِلْعِيدِ وَلِلْوَفْدِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ قَالَ فَلَبِثَ عُمَرُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِجُبَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ حَتَّى أَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْتَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ أَوْ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَىَّ بِهَذِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَبِيعُهَا وَتُصِيبُ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ  

His father said: "Umar bin A-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, found a Hullah of Istibraq in the market. He took it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why don't you buy this and adorn yourself with it for the two 'Eids and when (meeting) the delegations?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'This is the clothing of one who has no share in the Hereafter,' or: 'This is worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter.' Then as much time passed as Allah (SWT) willed, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to Umar a garment made of Dibaj. He brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you said that this is the clothing of one who has no share in the Hereafter, then you sent this to me?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Sell it and use the money for whatever you need.'"

وَجَدَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ حُلَّةً مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ فِي السُّوقِ فَأَخَذَهَا فَأَتَى بِهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ فَتَجَمَّلْ بِهَا لِلْعِيدِ وَلِلْوَفْدِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ» فَلَبِثَ عُمَرُ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَلْبَثَ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِحُلَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ فَأَقْبَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ حَتَّى أَتَى بِهَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْتَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيَّ بِهَذِهِ الْجُبَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «تَبِيعُهَا أَوْ تُصِيبُ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ»  

"إِنِّى لَمْ أُعْطِكَ لِتَلْبَسَه إِنَّما أَعْطَيْتُكَ لتبيعَهُ وتنتفعَ به، وفى رواية تُشَققَها خُمُرًا بَيْنَ نِسَائِكَ. قاله ﷺ لعمر حين أَعْطاهُ الحلة وكانت قَبَاءَ ديباجٍ فلبسه عمرُ فنهاهُ عن لبسه فباعه عمرُ بأَلْفَىْ دِرهم، وفى روايةِ ابن عمر قال: وجد عمر بن الخطّاب حُلَّةً مِن إِستبرق تباع في السوق فأَخذها فأَتى بها رسولَ اللَّه ﷺ فقال: يا رسول اللَّه ابتَعْ هذه فتجمَّلْ بها للعيد وللوفدِ فقال: إِنَّما هذه لباس من لا خلاق له. ثمَّ لبث عمر ما شاءَ اللَّه ثُمَّ أَرسل النبى ﷺ إِليه بجبةِ ديباج فقال: قَدْ قُلْتَ فيها ما قلتَ ثمَّ أَرسلت إِلَّى بهذه؟ فقال: تبيعها وتصيبُ بها حاجَتَك" .
