[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to delay the Dhuhr prayer until the time of Asr (mid-afternoon) when he would be traveling. Then he would combine them (Dhuhr and Asr). If the sun set before he could start the Dhuhr prayer, he would pray it first and then continue his journey. And in a narration from Ibn Abdullah, it is stated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would combine the remaining prayers together.  

البيهقي:٥٥٢٠ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي حَسَّانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ ثنا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ وَابْنُ مَوْهَبٍ الْمَعْنَى قَالَا ثنا الْمُفَضَّلُ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا ارْتَحَلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَزِيغَ الشَّمْسُ أَخَّرَ الظُّهْرَ إِلَى وَقْتِ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَإِنْ زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْتَحِلَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ رَكِبَ وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ وَالْبَاقِي سَوَاءٌ

Whenever the Prophet ﷺ started on a journey before noon, he used to delay the Zuhr prayers till the time for the 'Asr prayer and then he would dismount and offer them together; and whenever the sun declined before he started on a journey he used to offer the Zuhr prayers and then ride (for journey).

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on a journey before the sun declined (from the meridian), he delayed the noon prayer till the afternoon prayer, and then dismounted (his ride) and combined them (noon and afternoon prayers), but if the sun had declined before his setting out on a journey, he observed the noon prayer and then mounted (the ride).  

مسلم:٧٠٤a – وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded before the sun had declined, he delayed the noon prayer till the time of the afternoon prayer, he would then alight and combine the two prayers. If the sun declined before he moved off, he would offer the noon prayer and rode (the beast) - may peace be upon him. Abu Dawud said: The narrator Mufaddal was the judge of Egypt. His supplication was accepted by Allah; he was the son of Fudalah.  

أبو داود:١٢١٨ – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ وَابْنُ مَوْهَبٍ الْمَعْنَى قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ
