[Machine] A man died and left behind six men whom he had freed upon his death. His heirs mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he said, "If only we knew how we could offer funeral prayer for him!" He then asked them to bring those men to him. He questioned them and found that two of them were deserving of manumission while four were to be returned to slavery.  

البيهقي:٢١٣٩٨وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ هُوَ الْأَصَمُّ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شَاكِرٍ ثنا عَمْرٌو يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَمَّادٍ الْقَنَّادَ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ

أَنَّهُ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ وَتَرَكَ سِتَّةَ رِجَالٍ فَأَعْتَقَهُمْ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ فَجَاءَ وَرَثَتُهُ فَذَكَرُوا ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَوْ عَلِمْنَا مَا صَلَّيْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ ادْعُهُمْ لِي فَدَعَاهُمْ فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ وَرَدَّ أَرْبَعَةً فِي الرِّقِّ

[Machine] A man who had enslaved six people before his death, came and his heirs, who were from the Bedouins, informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what he had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Did he really do that?" They replied, "If only we knew, by the will of Allah, we would not have prayed for him." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rebuked them and emancipated two of the slaves, then returned the remaining four to their masters.

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ سِتَّةَ رَجْلَةٍ لَهُ فَجَاءَ وَرَثَتُهُ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ فَأَخْبَرُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَا صَنَعَ قَالَ أَوَفَعَلَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ لَوْ عَلِمْنَا إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ مَا صَلَّيْنَا عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَعْتَقَ مِنْهُمْ اثْنَيْنِ وَرَدَّ أَرْبَعَةً فِي الرِّقِّ

[Machine] A man had freed a slave at his death, and his heirs from the Arab tribes came and informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about what he had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Why did he do that?" So, he struck a deal between them and freed two slaves, and returned four to bondage.
