[Machine] I met Abu Darda and said to him, "I had a brother who died and he entrusted me with a portion of his wealth. Where should I put it? Should I give it to the poor, the fighters in jihad, or should I free slaves?" He replied, "If I were you, I would not give it all to the fighters in jihad, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The example of the one who emancipates a slave at the time of his death is like the one who gives a gift after having fully satisfied his hunger.'"  

البيهقي:٢١٣١٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ الطَّائِيِّ قَالَ

لَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ أَخًا لِي مَاتَ وَأَوْصَى إِلِيَّ بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ مَالِهِ فَفِي أِيِّ شَيْءٍ أَضَعُهُ؟ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمُجَاهِدِينَ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ؟ قَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي فَلَوْ كُنْتُ لَمْ أَعْدِلْ بِالْمُجَاهِدِينَ لِأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْتِقُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُهْدِي بَعْدَ مَا يَشْبَعُ

"My brother willed a portion of his wealth to me. So I met Abu Ad-Darda and said: 'My brother has willed a portion of his wealth to me, so where do you suggest that I should give it- to the poor, the needy, or the Mujahidin in Allah's Cause?' He said: 'As for me, then I would not consider them equal to the Mujahidin. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The parable of the one who frees a slave at the time of his death is that of the one who gives a gift when he is satisfied (fulfilled his needs)."  

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.

أَوْصَى إِلَيَّ أَخِي بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ مَالِهِ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ أَخِي قَدْ أَوْصَى إِلَيَّ بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ مَالِهِ فَأَيْنَ أَضَعُهُ؟ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ أَوِ الْمَسَاكِينِ أَوِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ؟ فَقَالَ أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَوْ كُنْتُ لَمْ أَعْدِلْ بِالْمُجَاهِدِينَ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْتِقُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي يُهْدِي إِذَا شَبِعَ» هَذَا لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ

[Machine] A man entrusted me with a portion of his wealth, which I took and went to Abu Darda. I consulted him regarding giving it to the poor or the immigrants. He said, "As for me, if I were to straddle the immigrants, I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The example of the one who gives charitable gifts at death is like one who brings his charity to the people while he is full, not in need.'"  

البيهقي:٧٨٣٣ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ أنبأ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ أنبأ يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ قَالَ

أَوْصَى إِلَيَّ رَجُلٌ بِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ مَالِهِ أَضَعُهَا فَأَتَيْتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَاسْتَأْمَرْتُهُ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ أَوْ فِي الْمُهَاجِرِينَ فَقَالَ أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَوْ كُنْتُ لَمْ أَعْدِلْ بِالْمُهَاجِرِينَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْتِقُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ كَالَّذِي يُهْدِي بَعْدَ الشِّبَعِ
