[Machine] And the people of Sham said, "Why have you not witnessed the battles? You have no share with us." Habib refused to join them, and his companions gathered their spoils. The people of Sham and the people of Iraq argued about that, to the point that it almost caused a conflict between them. Some of the people of Iraq said, "If you kill Salman, we will kill your beloved companion. If you go towards Ibn 'Affan, we will follow suit." Abu Bakr al-Ghassani said, "I heard that this was the first enmity that occurred between the people of Sham and the people of Iraq."
وَقَالَ أَهْلُ الشَّامِ لَمْ تَشْهَدُوا الْقِتَالَ لَيْسَ لَكُمْ مَعَنَا شَيْءٌ وَأَبَى حَبِيبٌ أَنْ يُشْرِكَهُمْ وَحَوَى وَأَصْحَابُهُ عَلَى غَنِيمَتِهِمْ فَتَنَازَعَ أَهْلُ الشَّامِ وَأَهْلُ الْعِرَاقِ فِي ذَلِكَ حَتَّى كَادَ يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ كَوْنٌ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ إِنْ تَقْتُلُوا سَلْمَانَ نَقْتُلْ حَبِيبَكُمْ وَإِنْ تَرْحَلُوا نَحْوَ ابْنِ عَفَّانَ نَرْحَلْ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْغَسَّانِيُّ فَسَمِعْتُ أَنَّهَا أَوَّلُ عَدَاوَةٍ وَقَعَتْ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ وَأَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ
