[AI] A group of Bedouins came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we live in these deserts where we cannot find water and it is not visible for three or four months. Abu Rabi'a doubts this." Among us are women who are on their period and postnatal bleeding, and men who are in a state of major impurity (janabah)." Abu Rabi'a al-Sammam is weak. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, we shall meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives with us. May we kill with a sharp-edged white stone (flint) and with splinter of a staff ? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Hasten in slaughtering it. When Allah's name is mentioned you may eat what is killed by anything which causes the blood to flow except tooth and claw. I shall tell you about it. The tooth is a bone, and the claw is the knife of Abyssinians. Some people hastened and went forward, they made haste and got booty, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the rear and they setup cooking pots. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by over the cooking pots. He ordered to turn them over. He then divided (the spoils of war) between them, and gave them a camel for ten goats in equation. One of the camels of the people ran away, and they had no horses with them at that time. A man shot an arrow at it, and Allah prevented it from escaping. The Prophet ﷺ said: Among animals (i.e. camels) there are some which bolt like wild animals ; so when any of them does so, do with it like this.

So eat, for its teeth and nails are not it. And I will tell you about its teeth, they are bones, and about its nails, they are like the hooves of a horse." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ acquired spoils, and a camel from it was taken away, so they pursued it but could not catch it. Then a man from the people shot an arrow at it and hit it, so he restrained it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, for these camels or sheep there are offspring like the offspring of wild animals. So when something defeats you from it, do this." He said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to allocate ten from the spoils to the she-camel." Shu'bah said, "And my most knowledgeable opinion is that I have heard this wording from Sa'id and he used to allocate ten from the spoils to the she-camel. And Sufyan narrated from him, and Muhammad and I have heard this wording from Sufyan."

(Then) I will inform you about the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the nail, it is the length of a habsah (a measurement)." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ obtained some camels as spoils of war, so a man from the people threw an arrow hitting it, and he killed it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ confiscated it and said, "Indeed, these camels have (many) descendants, like the descendants of the wild animals. So when something from them defeats you, do this." He said, "And the Prophet ﷺ used to distribute one-tenth of the booty in sheep, by means of a camel." And Muhammad narrated to me, and I had also heard from Sufyan, this letter (the Harf)

Then the tongues of the people started slandering him. And with this chain of narrators, Mahmoud bin Ghaylan informed us, that Shu'bah said, "Shahr bin Hawshab accompanied a man from the people of Sham, and he stole his clothing." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafith informed us, that I am Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub, Shahr bin Hawshab sold his religion for clothing. So who will trust the reciters after you, O Shahr?" Abu Bakr Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Faqih informed us, that Ali bin Umar Al-Hafith informed us, that Da'lj bin Ahmad said, "I asked Musa bin Harun about this Hadith, and he said, 'There is nothing in it from Shahr bin Hawshab, and the Hadith regarding its authenticity is doubtful.'" Al-Bayhaqi said, "And there is doubt regarding the authenticity of the Hadith."

البيهقي:١٣٢٨٣أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ دُرُسْتَوَيْهِ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ

مَا خُيِّرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي أَمْرَيْنِ إِلَّا أَخَذَ أَيْسَرَهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ إِثْمًا فَإِذَا كَانَ إِثْمًا كَانَ أَبْعَدَ النَّاسِ مِنْهُ وَمَا انْتَقَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِنَفْسِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ تُنْتَهَكَ حُرْمَةُ اللهِ فَيَنْتَقِمُ لِلَّهِ بِهَا 13284 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الذُّهْلِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ فَذَكَرَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ قَوْلَهُ فَيَنْتَقِمُ لِلَّهِ بِهَا

[AI] He was asked while on the pulpit about a man who divorced his wife three times, then someone else married her, closed the door, removed the veil, and revealed her face, then divorced her. He said, "She is not permissible for the first man until the other man tastes her honey." This is the wording of the Hadith of Al-'Abdiyy. Al-'Abdiyy also said it in his narration, as did Abu Ahmad Al-Zubayri. The authentic narration is from 'Abd Al-Rahman bin Mahdi, and it was narrated by Waki' once from Sufyan, who narrated from 'Alqamah, from Razeen bin Sulaiman Al-Ahmarri. He was contradicted by Shu'bah in his chain of narrators, so he narrated it from 'Alqamah bin Marthad, from Salim bin Razeen, from Salim bin 'Abdullah, from Sa'id bin Al-Musayyib, from Ibn 'Umar. The Prophet informed us of this and it was narrated by Abu 'Abdullah Al-Hafiz and Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Al-Hasan. They said, "Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub informed us, Muhammad bin Ishaq informed me, and I am the successor of Yahya bin Ma'in." They said, "Ghandar informed us, Shu'bah mentioned it to us, and I received it from Muhammad bin Isma'il Al-Bukhari that he weakened the Hadith of Shu'bah and Sufyan together. And Abi Zar'ah said that the Hadith of Sufyan is the most authentic."

رَوَاهُ قَيْس بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلْقَمَةٌ بْنِ مَرْثَد عَنْ رَزِينٍ الأَحْمَرِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدُ الله بْنَ عُمَرَ ؓ يقول سُئِلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ فَبَانَتْ مِنْهُ فَذَكَرَهُ أَخْبَرَنَاه أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ جَنَاحُ بْنُ نُذَيْرٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ أنا أَبُو جَعْفَرِ بْنُ دُحَيْمٍ نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ نا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ نا قَيْسٌ فَذَكَرَهُ وَكَانَ شُعْبَةُ يَقُولُ سُفْيَانُ أَحْفَظُ مِنِّي وَقَالَ يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ إِذَا اخْتَلَفَا أَخَذْتُ بِقَوْلِ سُفْيَانَ وَرُوِيَ فِي ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , in Dhi al-Hulayfah from Tihamah, and the people were hungry. They slaughtered camels and sheep. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , came to them when the pots were set up. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , ordered the pots, and they were filled. Then he divided them among the people, giving each group ten sheep for one camel. A person threw an arrow at a camel from the people’s camels; the people did not have anything but a few horses. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , held the arrow and said, "Indeed, these camels have young ones, like those of wild animals. So whatever you have left of them, do this with it." Abu Dawud narrated this hadith from Rifa'ah. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we will face the enemy tomorrow, and we do not have anything to oil our bows with. Shall we slaughter the camels (for that purpose)?" The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "As for the blood, it is not disliked, and if you mention the name of Allah (i.e., saying Bismillah) over it, then eat (the meat of) whatever is left of them, except for the bones and the hooves." Then he told us about something. As for the bones, they are firewood, and as for the hooves, they are provided to the Abyssinians.

البيهقي:١٨٩٢٨أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا زَائِدَةُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ الثَّقَفِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْرُوقٍ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَافِعٍ ؓ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ مِنْ تِهَامَةَ وَقَدْ جَاعَ الْقَوْمُ فَأَصَابُوا إِبِلًا وَغَنَمًا فَانْتَهَى إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ نُصِبَتِ الْقُدُورُ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْقُدُورِ فَأُكْفِئَتْ ثُمَّ قَسَمَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَعَدَلَ عَشْرًا مِنَ الْغَنَمِ بِبَعِيرٍ قَالَ فَنَدَّ بَعِيرٌ مِنْ إِبِلِ الْقَوْمِ وَلَيْسَ فِي الْقَوْمِ إِلَّا خَيْلٌ يَسِيرَةٌ فَرَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ بِسَهْمٍ فَحَبَسَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ لِهَذِهِ الْإِبِلِ أَوَابِدَ كَأَوَابِدِ الْوَحْشِ فَمَا غَلَبَكُمْ مِنْهَا فَاصْنَعُوا بِهِ هَكَذَا وَعَنْ عَبَايَةَ عَنْ رَافِعٍ قَالَ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا لَاقُو الْعَدُوِّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنْا مُدًى أَفَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ فَكُلْ مَا خَلَا السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ وَسَأُخْبِرُكَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ

أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ زَائِدَةَ 18929 أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا الْبَاغَنْدِيُّ ثنا قَبِيصَةُ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ؓ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ فَأَصَابَ النَّاسُ إِبِلًا وَغَنَمًا وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِنَحْوِهِ قَالَ عَبَايَةُ ثُمَّ إِنَّ نَاضِحًا تَرَدَّى بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَذُبِحَ مِنْ قِبَلِ شَاكِلَتِهِ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ عَشِيرًا بِدِرْهَمَيْنِ

[AI] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, tomorrow we will encounter the enemy without any duration (weapons) with us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Show me or hasten what spills blood and the name of Allah is mentioned upon it, so eat what is not a tooth or a nail." I will inform you about that. As for the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the nail, it is the duration (weapon) of the Abyssinians. The people (companions) proceeded quickly, so hasten. They obtained from the spoils of war, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was among the last people. They set up pots, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by the pots, so he ordered them, and they were filled. He distributed it among them. He balanced a camel with ten shiahs (portion) and called for a camel from the camels of the people, and they did not have horses with them. A man threw an arrow at it, and Allah seized it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, this camel has her babies like the offspring of wild animals. When he does this with it, do likewise with it."

البيهقي:١٨٩٣٧أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَا ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ؓ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنْا مُدًى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَرِنْ أَوْ أَعْجِلْ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ فَكُلُوا مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ سِنٌّ أَوْ ظُفُرٌ وَسَأُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ وَتَقَدَّمَ سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ فَتَعَجَّلُوا فَأَصَابُوا مِنَ الْمَغَانِمِ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي آخِرِ النَّاسِ فَنَصَبُوا قُدُورًا فَمَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْقُدُورِ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَأُكْفِئَتْ وَقَسَمَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَعَدَلَ بَعِيرًا بِعَشْرِ شِيَاهٍ وَنَدَّ بَعِيرٌ مِنْ إِبِلِ الْقَوْمِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُمْ خَيْلٌ فَرَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ بِسَهْمٍ فَحَبَسَهُ اللهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ لِهَذِهِ الْإِبِلِ أَوَابِدَ كَأَوَابِدِ الْوَحْشِ وَإِذَا فَعَلَ مِنْهَا هَذَا فَافْعَلُوا بِهِ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ

رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ مُسَدَّدٍ كَذَا قَالَ أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ وَسَائِرُ الرُّوَاةِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ قَالُوا عَنْ عَبَايَةَ عَنْ جَدِّهِ وَقَدْ وَافَقَ حَسَّانُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ أَبَا الْأَحْوَصِ عَلَى رِوَايَتِهِ 18938 أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ أنبأ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَا ثنا حَسَّانُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ
