[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man from the Bedouin came wearing a worn-out cloak with patches and said, "Your companion has placed the people of Persia in low status. He wants to put all the Persians underneath the feet of the Persians and raise all the Arabs above the Arabs." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then took hold of the edges of his cloak and said, "Do you not see that I am wearing the clothing of someone who does not understand? Then he said, 'Verily, Prophet Nuh ﷺ, when his death approached, said to his son, I shall indeed give you farewell advice. I enjoin two things upon you and forbid you from two things. I enjoin you to say La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah) for verily, if the seven heavens and the seven earths were put in one side of the balance and La ilaha illallah is put on the other side, it would outweigh them. And if the seven heavens and the seven earths were crushed together into nonsolid material, they would be broken apart by La ilaha illallah and Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah) and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah). Verily, it is the prayer of everything and it is the means of provision for all creatures. And I forbid you from shirk and being arrogant.' I said, 'Oh Messenger of Allah, we know what shirk is, but what is arrogance?' He said, 'Arrogance is to reject the truth and to belittle people.' I said, 'Or it was said, Oh Messenger of Allah, is it arrogance that one likes to wear good clothes and good shoes?' He said, 'No.' I asked, 'Is it arrogance that one has a mount to ride?' He replied, 'No.' I asked, 'Is it arrogance that one has companions sitting with him?' He replied, 'No.' I said, 'Then what is arrogance, Oh Messenger of Allah?' He replied, 'Arrogance is denying the truth and looking down upon others.'"

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ once encountered a Bedouin man wearing a patched cloak, either made of tayalisah fabric or mazroorah fabric. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, your companion here wants to rid every shepherd of his staff and every horseman of his horse." The Prophet ﷺ then stood up in anger, grabbed the collar of the man's cloak, and said, "I don't see you wearing the clothes of an individual who lacks intellect." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned and sat down, saying, "When Nuuh (Noah) was at the point of death, he called his sons and said to them, 'I am leaving behind a will for you. I command you with two matters and forbid you from two matters. I command you to avoid shirk (associating partners with Allah) and arrogance, and I command you to affirm the statement 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.' Verily, if the heavens and the earth, and all that is within them, were placed in one scale, and 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah' were placed in the other scale, it would outweigh them. And if the heavens and the earth were both a ring, 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah' would break them or cause them to break. And I command you with the proclamation of 'Subhan Allah wa bi hamdihi' (Glory be to Allah and all praise is due to Him), for it is the prayer of everything, and through it, everything is provided sustenance."
