"I used to visit Ibn Mas'ud every Thursday afternoon but he never uttered the words: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said.' Then one evening, he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,' then he let his head hang down." He said: "I looked at him and saw his shirt was unfastened; his eyes were filled with tears, and his veins were bulging out (with fear). He said:' Or more than that, or less than that, or close to that or something similar.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 23)   

أحمد:٤٣٢١ – حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ وَابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُسْلِمٌ الْبَطِينُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ مَا أَخْطَأَنِي أَوْ قَلَّمَا أَخْطَأَنِي ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ خَمِيسًا قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَشِيَّةَ خَمِيسٍ إِلَّا أَتَيْتُهُ قَالَ فَمَا سَمِعْتُهُ لِشَيْءٍ قَطُّ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا كَانَ ذَاتَ عَشِيَّةٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فَنَكَسَ قَالَ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ مَحْلُولٌ أَزْرَارُ قَمِيصِهِ قَدِ اغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَاهُ وَانْتَفَخَتْ أَوْدَاجُهُ فَقَالَ أَوْ دُونَ ذَاكَ أَوْ فَوْقَذَاكَ أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْ ذَاكَ أَوْ شَبِيهًا بِذَاكَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Until at the time of nightfall, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'So I looked at him and behold, his shirt buttons were undone, his hair was disheveled and there were marks around his eyes.' Then he said, 'It was like this or higher than this, or close to this, or as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ ذَاتَ عَشِيَّةٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ مَحْلُولٌ أَزْرَارُ قَمِيصِهِ مُنْتَفِخٌ أَوْدَاجُهُ مُغْرَوْرِقَةٌ عَيْنَاهُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا أَوْ فَوْقَ ذَا أَوْ قَرِيبٌ مِنْ ذَا أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , until it was the evening. He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ .' Then he lowered his head, and I saw the buttons of his shirt had become loosened, and the veins in his forehead were bulging, and his eyes had reddened. He said, 'Or above that, or below that, or close to that, or something similar to that.'"  

الطبراني:٨٦١٧ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَوْنٍ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ مَا أَخْطَأَنِي عَشِيَّةَ خَمِيسٍ إِلَّا آتِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فِيهَا §فَمَا سَمِعْتُهُ بِشَيْءٍ قَطُّ يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ ذَاتَ عَشِيَّةٍ قَالَ «سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ» ثُمَّ نَكَسَ فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَرَأَيْتُهُ مَحْلُولَ أَزْرَارِ قَمِيصِهِ قَدِ انْتَفَخَتْ أَوْدَاجُهُ وَاغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَاهُ فَقَالَ «أَوْ فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ أَوْ دُونَ ذَلِكَ أَوْ قَرِيبٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَوْ شِبْهُ ذَلِكَ»
