[Machine] About a woman from the tribe of Ghifar, who was given to me (i.e. married to me), she said, "I came to the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in a state of ritual impurity (i.e. menstruation), along with some women from the tribe of Ghifar. We said to him: O Messenger of Allah, we wanted to go out with you to Khaybar, where you were heading, and nurse the wounded and help the Muslims with anything we could. He said: "Go out with the blessing of Allah." So we went out with him, and I was a young girl. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) made me ride behind him on his camel saddle. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) descended (from the camel) when it was still dark. I dismounted from the camel saddle, and noticed that there was some blood on it, which was the first menstruation I had. I folded it up and held onto the camel. I felt shy and embarrassed. When the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw what had happened to me and saw the blood, he said: "What is the matter with you? Perhaps you have your period?" I said: Yes. He said: "Sort yourself out, take a vessel of water, put some salt in it, then wash the blood off the saddle, then return to your camel." She said: When the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) conquered Khaybar, he gave us some of the spoils, and he took this necklace that you see hanging around my neck, and he gave it to me and put it on my neck with his own hand, and I swear by Allah, it has never left me since then, until he died. Then when she died, she left instructions that she should be buried with it, and when she had her period, she would put salt in the water of her ritual bath (ghusl), and she instructed that it should be put in her grave when she died.

Umayyah, daughter of AbusSalt, quoted a certain woman of Banu Ghifar, whose name was mentioned to me, as saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made me ride behind him on the rear of the camel saddle. By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ got down in the morning. He made his camel kneel down and I came down from the back of his saddle. There was a mark of blood on it (saddle) and that was the first menstruation that I had. I stuck to the camel and felt ashamed. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw what had happened to me and saw the blood, he said: Perhaps you are menstruating. I said: Yes. He then said: Set yourself right (i.e. tie some cloth to prevent bleeding), then take a vessel of water and put some salt in it, and then wash the blood from the back of the saddle, and then return to your mount. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Khaybar, he gave us a portion of the booty. Whenever the woman became purified from her menses, she would put salt in water. And when she died, she left a will to put salt in the water for washing her (after death).

[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a group of women from the Banu Ghifar tribe. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we wish to go out with you and assist in treating the wounded and helping the Muslims as much as we can." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "With the blessings of Allah, we went out together. I was a young girl at the time. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ handed me his bag of provisions. We camped for the night and I noticed blood on the bag, which was my first menstruation. I became embarrassed. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the blood and my embarrassment, he asked if I was feeling unwell. I replied, "Yes." He said, "Take a vessel of water, put salt in it, and wash the area that was affected on the bag. Then perform ablution and return to your transportation." From then on, my menstrual blood never stained anymore. He also advised me to put salt in the water used for ablution when I die." This hadith was narrated by Abu Ali al-Rudhbari, who heard it from Abu Bakr ibn Dasa, who heard it from Abu Dawood, who heard it from Muhammad ibn Amr al-Razi, who heard it from Salamah ibn al-Fadl, who heard it from Umayyah bint Abi al-Salt, who narrated the incident. The only difference is that Umayyah did not mention the Prophet's ﷺ statement to wash the affected area with salt and perform ablution. [4112]
