the Messenger of Allah sent Abu Jahm bin Hudhaifah to collect Zakah and a man argued with him about his Sadaqah, so Abu Jahm struck him. They came to the prophet and he said: "Diyah, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "You will have such and such," but they did not accept it. The Messenger of Allah said: "You will have such and such," and they accepted it. The Messenger of Allah said: "I am going to address the people and tell them that you accepted it." They said: "Yes." So the Prophet addressed (the people) and said: "Those people came to me seeking compensation, and I offered them such as such, and they accepted." They said: "No." The Muhajirun wanted to attack them, but the Messenger of Allah ordered them to refrain, so they refrained. Then he called them and said: "Do you accept?" They said:" Yes." He said: "I and going to address the people and tell them that you accepted it." They said: "Yes." So the Prophet addressed (the people), then he said: "Do you accept?" They said: "Yes."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا جَهْمِ بْنَ حُذَيْفَةَ مُصَدِّقًا فَلاَحَّهُ رَجُلٌ فِي صَدَقَتِهِ فَضَرَبَهُ أَبُو جَهْمٍ فَأَتَوُا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ الْقَوَدُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ لَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَلَمْ يَرْضَوْا بِهِ فَقَالَ لَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَرَضُوا بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنِّي خَاطِبٌ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَمُخْبِرُهُمْ بِرِضَاكُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَخَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَؤُلاَءِ أَتَوْنِي يُرِيدُونَ الْقَوَدَ فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَرَضُوا قَالُوا لاَ فَهَمَّ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ بِهِمْ فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَكُفُّوا فَكَفُّوا ثُمَّ دَعَاهُمْ قَالَ أَرَضِيتُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنِّي خَاطِبٌ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَمُخْبِرُهُمْ بِرِضَاكُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَرَضِيتُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ  

The Prophet ﷺ sent AbuJahm ibn Hudhayfah as a collector of zakat. A man quarrelled with him about his sadaqah (i.e. zakat), and AbuJahm struck him and wounded his head. His people came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Revenge, Messenger of Allah! The Prophet ﷺ said: You may have so much and so much. But they did not agree. He again said: You may have so much and so much. But they did not agree. He again said: You may have so much and so much. So they agreed. The Prophet ﷺ said: I am going to address the people in the afternoon and tell them about your consent. They said: Yes. Addressing (the people), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: These people of faith came to me asking for revenge. I presented them with so much and so much and they agreed. Do you agree? They said: No. The immigrants (muhajirun) intended (to take revenge) on them. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to refrain and they refrained. He then called them and increased (the amount), and asked: Do you agree? They replied: Yes. He said: I am going to address the people and tell them about your consent. They said: Yes. The Prophet ﷺ addressed and said: Do you agree? They said: Yes.

They came to Prophet ﷺ and said: “Compensatory money, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!” The Prophet ﷺ said: “You will have such and such,” but they did not accept that. He said: “You will have such and such,” and they agreed. Then the Prophet ﷺ said: “I am going to address the people and tell them that you agreed.” They said: “Yes.” So the Prophet ﷺ addressed (the people) and said: “These people of Laith came to me seeking compensatory money, and I have offered them such and such. Do you agree?” They said: “No.” The Emigrants wanted to attack them, but the Prophet ﷺ told them not to, so they refrained. Then he called them and offered them more and said: “Do you agree?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “I am going to address the people and tell them that you agreed.” They said: “Yes.” So the Prophet ﷺ addressed (the people) then said: “Do you Agree?” They said: “Yes.”

[Machine] Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ sent Abu Jahl bin Hudhayfah as a representative to collect charity. A man refused to give him charity, so Abu Jahl struck him and injured him. They all went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, seek justice!" The Prophet ﷺ said, "You have this and that." They were not satisfied, so he said again, "You have this and that." They were still not satisfied, so he said, "You have this and that." Finally, they agreed and said, "Are you satisfied?" They replied, "Yes."

"عَنْ عَائِشَة: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا جَهْمِ بْنَ حُذَيْفَةَ مُصَدِّقًا، فلاحه (*) رَجُلٌ فِي صَدَقَتِهِ، فَضَرَبَهُ أَبُو جَهْمٍ فَشَجَّهُ، فأتوا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ[فَقَالُوا]: القَوَدَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: لَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَلَمْ يَرْضَوْا، قَالَ: فَلَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَلَمْ يَرْضَوْا، قَالَ: فَلَكُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَرَضُوا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: [إِنِّي] خَاطِبٌ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَمُخْبِرُهُمْ بِرِضَاكُمْ، قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَخَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ [اللَّيْثِيِّينَ] أَتَوْنِي يُرِيدُونَ القَوَدَ، فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا [فَرَضُوا، أَرَضَيْتُمْ؟ قَالُوا: لَا] فَهَمَّ المُهَاجِرُونَ، فَأَمَرَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَكُفُّوا فَكَفُّوا، ثُمَّ دَعَاهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ وَقَالَ: أَرَضيتُمْ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَإِنِّي خَاطِبٌ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَمُخْبِرُهُمْ بِرِضَاكُمْ، قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَخَطَبَ وَقَالَ: أَرَضيتُمْ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ".
