While I was with the Prophet ﷺ a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have committed a legally punishable sin; please inflict the legal punishment on me'.' The Prophet ﷺ did not ask him what he had done. Then the time for the prayer became due and the man offered prayer along with the Prophet ﷺ , and when the Prophet ﷺ had finished his prayer, the man again got up and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have committed a legally punishable sin; please inflict the punishment on me according to Allah's Laws." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Haven't you prayed with us?' He said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has forgiven your sin." or said, "....your legally punishable sin."

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ قَالَ وَلَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَصَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الصَّلاَةَ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْ فِيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ ذَنْبَكَ أَوْ قَالَ حَدَّكَ

Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence which deserves imposition of haad, so impose it upon me according to the Book of Allah. Thereupon he said: Were you not present with us at the time of prayer? He said: Yes. Thereupon he said: You have been granted pardon.

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ قَالَ وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَصَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْ فِيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَلْ حَضَرْتَ الصَّلاَةَ مَعَنَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ قَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ

We were sitting in the mosque in the company of Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A person came there and said: Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence which deserves the imposition of hadd upon me, so impose it upon me. Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept silent. He repeated it and said: Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence which deserves the imposition of hadd upon me, so impose it upon me. He (the Holy Prophet) kept silent, and it was at this time that Iqama was pronounced for prayer (and the prayer was observed). And when Allah's Apostle ﷺ had concluded the payer that person followed Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Umama said: I too followed Messenger of Allah ﷺ after he had concluded the prayer, so that I should know what answer he would give to that person. That person remained attached to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence which deserves imposition of hadd upon me, so impose it upon me. Abu Umama reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Didn't you see that as you got out of the house, you performed ablution perfectly well. He said: Messenger of Allah, of course. I did it. He again said to him: Then you observed prayer along with us. He said: Messenger of Allah, yes, it is so. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Verily, Allah has exempted you from the imposition of hadd, or he said. From your sin.

بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَنَحْنُ قُعُودٌ مَعَهُ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ أَعَادَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ فَاتَّبَعَ الرَّجُلُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ انْصَرَفَ وَاتَّبَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْظُرُ مَا يَرُدُّ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ فَلَحِقَ الرَّجُلُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ قَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرَأَيْتَ حِينَ خَرَجْتَ مِنْ بَيْتِكَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ تَوَضَّأْتَ فَأَحْسَنْتَ الْوُضُوءَ قَالَ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ شَهِدْتَ الصَّلاَةَ مَعَنَا فَقَالَ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ حَدَّكَ أَوْ قَالَ ذَنْبَكَ

[AI] He said, "I heard Abu Umamah saying that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the mosque and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, indeed I have committed a sin, so please establish the punishment upon me.' The Prophet ﷺ remained silent. Then, he came and said to him again. Then, the prayer was established and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed. After that, he turned away. Abu Umamah said, 'The man followed him.' He said, 'I followed him to know what he would say to him.' The man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, indeed I have committed a sin, so please establish the punishment upon me.' The Prophet ﷺ said to him, 'Did you not perform ablution before leaving your house, and you performed it well, then you prayed with us?' He said, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Then, indeed Allah has forgiven your sin or fault.' Shaddad bin Aws (one of the narrators) said about the Hadith, 'So I left with the Prophet ﷺ and the man followed him.'"

قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ أَتَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ قَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ فَاتَّبَعَهُ الرَّجُلُ قَالَ وَتَبِعْتُهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ فَانْصَرَفْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَالرَّجُلُ يَتْبَعُهُ لِأَعْلَمَ مَا يَقُولُ لَهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ تَوَضَّأْتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنْ مَنْزِلِكَ فَأَحْسَنْتَ الْوُضُوءَ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ فَإِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ حَدَّكَ أَوْ ذَنْبَكَ شَكَّ عِكْرِمَةُ قَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ فَانْصَرَفْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَاتَّبَعَهُ الرَّجُلُ

Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence which deserves imposition of haad, so impose it upon me according to the Book of Allah. [AI] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so please establish the punishment upon me." He turned away from him. Then he said again, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so please establish the punishment upon me." Again, he turned away from him. Then the prayer was performed, and when he finished, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so please establish the punishment upon me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Did you perform ablution when you came?" He said, "Yes." He asked, "Did you pray with us?" He said, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then go, for surely Allah has forgiven you."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «هَلْ تَوَضَّأْتَ حِينَ أَقْبَلْتَ؟ » قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟ » قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ»

أَنَّ رَجُلا أَتَى النَّبِيّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ وَلَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ عَنْهُ وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَصَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيّ ﷺ الصَّلاةَ قَالَ يَا رَسولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْ فِيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ شَهِدْتَ الصَّلاةَ مَعَنَا قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَن أَنَس إلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ ولاَ رَوَاهُ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ إلاَّ هَمَّامٌ ولاَ عَن هَمَّامٍ إلاَّ عَمْرو بْنُ عَاصِم

[AI] While I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ , a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me." The Prophet ﷺ remained silent. The man repeated his request, saying, "I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "The prayer has been established." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and left. Shaddad said, "Abu Umamah told me that I walked with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the man followed him, saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, 'When you left your house, did you perform ablution and do it well?' He replied, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ asked, 'Did you bear witness to the prayer with us?' He replied, 'Yes.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed, Allah has forgiven your sin.'"

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا قَاعِدٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَعَادَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَخَرَجَ قَالَ شَدَّادٌ فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَمْشِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَالرَّجُلُ يَتْبَعُهُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «حِينَ خَرَجْتَ مِنْ بَيْتِكَ تَوَضَّأْتَ فَأَحْسَنْتَ؟» قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ «وَشَهِدَتَ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَنَا؟» قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ «فَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ حَدَّكَ» أَوْ قَالَ «دَيْنَكَ»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me." The Prophet ﷺ turned him away twice, and then the prayer was established. When the prayer ended, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Did you perform ablution when you came?" He replied, "Yes." He said, "And did you pray with us?" He replied, "Yes." He said, "Then go, for Allah has forgiven you."

قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَأُقِيمَتَ الصَّلَاةُ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمَا تَوَضَّأْتَ حِينَ أَقْبَلْتَ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَصَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ عَفَا عَنْكَ»

[AI] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "Indeed, I have committed a sin from the limits of Allah, so establish the punishment upon me." The Prophet ﷺ remained silent to him. Then he repeated his request, and the Prophet ﷺ remained silent to him again. Then the prayer was established and he prayed. After that, he left and the man followed him and repeated his request to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, "Did you perform ablution when you left your house and did you do it well, then did you pray with us?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Indeed, Allah has forgiven your sin or your mistake."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا مِنْ حُدُودِ اللهِ فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ أَعَادَ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ الرَّجُلُ فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَوَضَّأْتَ حِينَ خَرَجْتَ مِنْ بَيْتِكَ فَأَحْسَنْتَ الْوُضُوءَ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَإِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ ذَنْبَكَ أَوْ حَدَّكَ»

[AI] I was with the Prophet ﷺ when a man came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me." The Prophet did not ask him about it. Then the prayer was held, so he prayed with the Prophet ﷺ . When the Prophet ﷺ finished the prayer, the man came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so establish the punishment on me according to the Book of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Didn't you pray with us?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah has forgiven your sin."

كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ وَلَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ عَنْهُ فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالَ فَصَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الصَّلَاةَ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللهِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ ذَنْبَكَ

"عن أبى أمامة قال: بينما أنا قاعد مع النبى ﷺ إذا جاءه رجل فقال: يا رسول الله إنى قد أصبت حدا فأقمه على، فسكت النبى ﷺ ثم أعاد فأقيمت الصلاة فلم يَرُدَّ عليه شيئا حتى صلى النبى ﷺ ثم انصرف فقال: أرأيت خرجت من بيتك أليس توضأت فأحسنت الوضوء؟ قال: بلى يا رسول الله، قال: فإن الله قد غفر لك حدك، أو قال ذنبك".
