Discouraging the use of self aggrandizing titles and honorifics

A man gave himself ˹self aggrandizing˺ honorifics as of those of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (jahiliyyah), and then the hadith was mentioned. Ubayy said: We were instructed that if a man gave himself honorifics as of those of the pre-Islamic, we should tell him to 'bite his father's private part' and do not use ˹such an honorific˺ as a cognomen (kunyah)."  

أحمد:٢١٢٣٦حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عُتَيٍّ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا تَعَزَّى بِعَزَاءِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ أُبَيٌّ كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ إِذَا الرَّجُلُ تَعَزَّى بِعَزَاءِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَعِضُّوهُ بِهَنِ أَبِيهِ وَلَا تَكْنُوا
