When Zainab the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, he said to us: Wash her odd number of times, i. e. three or five times, and put camphor or something-like camphor at the fifth time, and after you have washed her inform me. So we informed him and he gave us his under-garment, saying:" Put it next her body."

لَمَّا مَاتَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلاَثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْخَامِسَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا غَسَلْتُنَّهَا فَأَعْلِمْنَنِي قَالَتْ فَأَعْلَمْنَاهُ فَأَعْطَانَا حِقْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ

"A daughter of the Messenger of Allah died and he told us to wash her. He said: 'Three times, or five or seven, or more than that, if you think that (is necessary).' I said: 'An odd number?' He said: 'Yes, and put camphor, or some camphor, in (the water) the last time. And when you have finished, inform me.' So when you have finished, we informed him, and then gave us his waist-wrap and said: 'Shroud her in it."

تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَةٌ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَنَا بِغَسْلِهَا فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلاَثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ سَبْعًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكِ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ وِتْرًا قَالَ نَعَمْ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَعْطَانَا حَقْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us when we were washing his daughter Umm Kulthum. He said: ‘Wash her three or five times, or more than that if you think you need to, with water and lote leaves, and put camphor or a little camphor in (the water) for the last washing. When you have finished, call for me.’ When we finished, we called him, and he gave his waist-wrapper to us and said: ‘Shroud her with it.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1458)

تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا بِسِدْرٍ وَاغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ

[Machine] When the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, he ﷺ said to us, "Wash her odd number of times, three or five, and in the Hereafter, make her have camphor or something from camphor. When you have washed her, inform me so that I may be informed." She said, "So he threw [some] water towards us and said, 'Sprinkle it on her.'"
