The Prophet ﷺ sets aside a cloak for Makhrama

ahmad:18927 – Hāshim > Layth > Abdullāh b. ʿUbaydullah b. Abī Mulaykah > al-Miswar b. Makhramah

[AI] Some cloaks adorned with gold buttons were gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he distributed them among his companions. Makhrama said, "O Miswar, take us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for I have been told that he distributed some cloaks." So we went, and he said, "Go in and call him for me." He said, "So I went in and called him, and he came out to me wearing one of them." He said, "I had kept this for you, O Makhrama." He looked at it and said, "He is pleased," so he gave it to him.

أحمد:١٨٩٢٧ – حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ، قَالَ:

أُهْدِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَقْبِيَةٌ مُزَرَّرَةٌ بِالذَّهَبِ، فَقَسَمَهَا فِي أَصْحَابِهِ. فَقَالَ مَخْرَمَةُ: يَا مِسْوَرُ، اذْهَبْ بِنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ ذُكِرَ لِي أَنَّهُ قَسَمَ أَقْبِيَةً. فَانْطَلَقْنَا، فَقَالَ: ادْخُلْ فَادْعُهُ لِي. قَالَ: فَدَخَلْتُ فَدَعَوْتُهُ إِلَيْهِ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيَّ وَعَلَيْهِ قَبَاءٌ مِنْهَا، قَالَ: «خَبَأْتُ لَكَ هَذَا يَا مَخْرَمَةُ». قَالَ: فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: رَضِيَ، فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed some cloaks but did not give anything thereof to Makhrama. Makhrama said (to me), "O son! accompany me to Messenger of Allah ﷺ." When I went with him, he said, "Call him to me." I called him (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ ) for my father. He came out wearing one of those cloaks and said, "We kept this (cloak) for you, (Makhrama)." Makhrama looked at the cloak and said, "Makhrama is pleased," (or the Prophet ﷺ said), "Is Makhrama pleased?"

O my son, come along with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So I went with him. He said: Enter the house and call him (to come out) for me. So I called him and he (the Holy Prophet) came out, and there was a cloak (from those already distributed) on him. He (the Holy Prophet) said: I had kept it for you. He (Makhrama), looked at it and was pleased.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed outer garments with full-length sleeves but did not give Makhramah anything. Makhramah said: Go with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So I went with him and he said: Enter and call him for me. I then called him. He came out to him and he had an outer garment with full-length sleeves over him from those garments. He said: I kept it for you. He looked at it, meaning Makhramah according to the addition of Ibn Mawhab. The agreed version then says: He said: Makhramah was pleased. Ibn Qutaibah said: From Ibn Abi Mulaikah, but he did not name it.

أبو داود:٤٠٢٨ – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ الْمَعْنَى أَنَّ اللَّيْثَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ
