We used to lease land for what grew by the streamlets and for what was watered from them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to do that, and commanded us to lease if for gold or silver. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3391)
كُنَّا نُكْرِي الْأَرْضَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَا عَلَى السَّوَاقِي مِنَ الزَّرْعِ وَبِمَا سَعِدَ بِالْمَاءِ مِنْهَا فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَذِنَ لَنَا أَوْ رَخَّصَ بِأَنْ نُكْرِيَهَا بِالذَّهَبِ وَالْوَرِقِ
We used to lease land for what grew by the streamlets and for what was watered from them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to do that, and commanded us to lease if for gold or silver.
كُنَّا نُكْرِي الأَرْضَ بِمَا عَلَى السَّوَاقِي مِنَ الزَّرْعِ وَمَا سَعِدَ بِالْمَاءِ مِنْهَا فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُكْرِيَهَا بِذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ
[Machine] "We used to cultivate the land during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, using the crops and water that were available on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from doing so, but later allowed us or gave us permission to cultivate it using gold and silver."
كُنَّا نُكْرِي الْأَرْضَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِمَا عَلَى السَّوَاقِي مِنَ الزَّرْعِ وَبِمَا سَعِدَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ مِنْهَا «فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَذِنَ لَنَا أَوْ قَالَ رَخَّصَ لَنَا فِي أَنْ نُكْرِيَهَا بِالذَّهَبِ وَالْوَرِقِ»
[Machine] "We used to rent the land during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, with what was harvested from it and what was irrigated by water from it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from doing so and allowed us to rent it with gold and silver."
